Just wanted to make sure, your question about the coils caused my confusion. Ignition coils won't have anything to do with the starter turning over the motor.

There is a small wire going to the starter solenoid. This wire should have 12 volts when the key is in the start position. You can check this with a volt meter or 12 volt test light.

If the wire doesn't have 12 volts the problem is probably the ignition swtch or the park/neutral switch. Have you tried starting with the car in neutral?

If the wire has 12 volts then you have either a bad battery, bad starter/solenoid or a bad cable/connection.

what is the solinoied on the starter

what is the solinoid and how many wires should the starter have on it when i go test it? i am new to car electrical but a fast learner and i really appericate it. thanks.
i tried too start the car in neutral but its the same problem. i even tried playing with the shifter while starting the car. its stuck at my wifes job. but i do have a good multi meter.what if the starter reade 11. something volts, close to 12-v is that o.k ...
if the wire has 12 volts should i but a starter. or try something else first. i really need to move the car as i have my stereo in there and it will be towed from the parking lot at my wifes job if i vant move it by tomorrow night. i dont want to pay for a tow truck. thanks alot technical ted. your the man bro i appericate it.

can i test my battery voltage with a multimeter? humm???

you say it could be a dead battery but i just bought a duralast gold battery a month ago. its 750 cold cranking amps . could i test the battery with my multimeter to see if it reads 12 volts ? if so how. just touch the battery's positive and negative post with the multimeter. thanks for all your help

starter relay or ignition relay

does anyone no where the starter or ignition relay's are. is there a relay or fuse box under the hood

Solenoid moves the starter gear to engage with the flywheel & then completes the circuit sending power to the starter motor. It's located on the top of the starter. It's where the wires connect to the starter.

I'm 99% sure there's no starter relay on the 88's.

Even a dead battery can still have 12 volts so testing with a meter doesn't help much. You might want to try giving it a jump.

Plus that wrench gets very hot very quick carrying that current shorting out the battery. I did it accidentally-one time. That's all it took.

thanks you guys i believe i fixed the problem....

i went to start the car today at my wifes job hoping it will kick over so can get it home but i treid for 20 minutes and it did'nt. then i decided to play around with the wires from the battery to the starter and i noticed that the clamp that holds the power wires from the starter and the car to the battery was crqacked almost in two and full of crossion. i then put my jumpstarter directly on the wire for the starter and grounded the negative to the battery and i tried it and the car started right up. so i then went to autozone and picked up some new battery terminal's both positive and negative and put them on. bonnie has been starting right up ever since.. well for the last 8 hours so far i have not had a problem and hopefully i do not encounter anymore.. thanks so much bonneville club and a special thatnks to technical ted.. you rock man... thanks

Glad to hear you got it going before it was towed.
