A/C on by default on HVAC

Is that normal? Whenever I first start the car, or turn on HVAC, it automatically turns on A/C. It's the digital climate controls. Even when I have it on like 80 deg, it still turns on a/c by default. I can't even turn off A/C when it's on defroster mode. Is that typical? Or is it 'conditioning' the air by removing moisture, not necessarily making it cold?

On defog/defrost the AC will be on. To remove the moisture.

When you press auto, the AC will come on. Press the AC button to turn it off. ;)
