First it faded out intermittently; then I could pound on it and it would work for a bit; then I got it working and put my hand on it and it felt like it was 'grinding'...

It worked a bit more and now it'* dead.
The switches worked fine when it was on; even the A/C positions.

What is this part #? how much does it cost? and how difficult is it to replace?

I stopped at the ActionAuto and the counter guy said there were two models of blower motor - a press in and a bolt on. He told me I had the press in, but I see a plug with two wires and 5 bolts surrounding the face plate.

Any idea what he was talking about there?

The OEM blower in my 93 had a press-on fan blade but NAPA sold me one with a bolt-on. The blade wasn't as deep as the OEM but It may have worked anyhow. Wouldn't ya know, I dropped the damn thing and cracked the blade which caused it to expand during HI fan operation enough to beat the crap out of the inside of the blower housing. I tried to take the blade from the original and put it on the new motor but that wasn't hapening. I ended up taking the one out of a parts car.

My advice, take the old one out and take it with you to the parts store. Make sure the blades are the same size. Had I not had the parts car, I was going to order one from www.gmpartsdirect.com instead of a local parts store.

The difference the counter kid was talking about between press/bolt on is the BLADE itself, not the entire motor assembly?

I'll have the extended warranty checked to see if it covers the blower motor, and if not, I'll pull it and do it myself...it wouldn't be the first one of these I've done in a car, but it might be the easiest.

Right... press on or bolt on blade. The problem was when I noticed that the blade was a little smaller, I took it back. They said that the other application that was showing in their computer was motor only and to re-use the OEM blade. There was no taking the old one off as the plastic blade became one with the motor. That'* why I suggested taking the old one in with you.

They are pretty easy to change. I managed to remove and reinstall without removing any accessories or brackets. Once the motor assembly is loose, it needs to be turned in such a way to come out. It just takes some fiddling around. Be careful with the vent tube, though. Mine was rubber and it was dry rotted. It disintegrated when I touched it.

$50 deductible on the warranty paid for the motor and installation!

I had a 96 Bonne SE intermittent heater/ac blower motor and purchased new one for $46 with the new fan attached, started replacement of my new motor and fan. However, when I took the bad unit out the plastic motor cover or heat shield (part number 52-468-407) fell apart into about 5 pieces. Here'* the weird thing--several pix I have seen of other Bonne firewalls show the blower motors without a cover..? Is it even necessary to replace the cover or should I just press on without it? I looked the part number up on some GM Parts web sites and ... nothing!

Press on...see if it works.
