Default Flashing Temp reading on Climate Control after start up ?

I have a couple of electrical problems with this car that I have not tackled yet.
The first being the dash cuts in and out all gauges freeze except for the Speedo & Tach.
I am certain that this is caused by corroded contacts which should be no problem to fix.

The second problem is puzzling me. After I start the car or even before when I turn the key to the Ignition position, the climate control Temperature display starts flashing.
Is this normal ? What does this mean or what causes this ?
Is there a sensor or something that could be dirty or not working properly and it can't detect what the Temp is ?

Thanks in Advance,
Dutch

Flashing display indicates a problem with the Climate Control.

Year and model please?

What kind of problem could cause this ?
Strangely enough around the time this started happening I started getting a weird key chime that lasts for close to a minute after turning the key to the on position or after starting the car. Its a fast chime similar to the one you get if you leave your head lights on. Is this related ?
Also the AC has a leak and has been unpluged before I got the car but the climate control has never done this before.
I am going to read the codes tomorrow and see if there are any new ones.

Thanks,
Dutch

ECC diagnostics are in Techinfo. That will solve (or help solve) the flashing temp display indication of an ECC fault (electronic climate control).

There'* also a Techinfo article for removing the cluster. Clean the contacts, and set/reseat them several times. 75% of the time, this will fix your gauge problem. Old car needs a little TLC, that'* all.
