If you don't have a few hundred bucks to spend, don't even think about HID. If you want more info on HID'*, PM Smellbird.
SilverStars are by far the most popular replacement bulb for headlights (both high and low beams) and driving lights here.
I prefer the Cool Blues for my highbeams, and Silverstars for the lows.

no bulb is gonna get u the look and brightness of HIDS.
silverstars are a great choice for a replacement bulb. i have piaa xtreme white plus low beams......seem to be a little whiter/crisper...but really worth double the price as silverstars??
i believe a member on here paid $450 for HIDS
silverstars should be less than 50 a pair
you could get high beams, low beams, upgraded driving lights, and h3 bulbs (not really needed) for almost $200.

Here'* a comparo between HID Low beam, and Hella Driving lights.
HID low.
Hella driving lights (being blocked in the middle)
Let it be known, smellbird (guy with HID) runs these driving lights as well.

silverstars work well for this application but i would not go for the cool blues because you wont really be able to see a difference like you would think (cool blues still have tons of yellow color in them and cannot see blue tint at all when lights are on). if you want a non yellow white light sliverstars will work but i found them to be a bit on the expensive side. you can get a pair of streetglow xenon-white headlights for half the price of silverstars and xenon-whites are also brighter (i have compared both side by side with another vehicle with silverstars). xenon-whites have a darker tint of blue but they look really white when looking at the beam of light. i also prefer the color of the beam of light with the xenon-whites over silverstars just because they just have a tint of blue in them. i purchased the xenon-whites and have been very happy with them. give them a try.
