charging system problems 95 vin k
95 bonneville 3.8 vin k, just fixed the leaking upper intake and now the p.o.* runs fine for awhile then tries to die and keeps running sometimes dying completely. the voltage gauge shows low output sometimes into the red when in gear idling. I understand that I may need to replace the computer, this will be the second one for the same problem 1 year ago, Is there something I am missing?
has any body tried a one wire alternator, or bypassing the computer and wiring the L -wire directly to a keyed battery source? I updated the alternator to a 140 amp unit also last time this happened.what is it about this car, you disconnect the battery to make repairs and the computer fails?
Can anybody tell me if gm makes a good car anymore?

Why would your PCM be giving you a problem with charging? I don't recall anyone having trouble with the PCM sending the proper signal.
You've checked the battery and alternator correct? How about belt tension?

Bill on that year bonneville, the computer sends the charge signal to the alternator, and for some reason it will send a very weak signal which will cause the alternator to have a low output.

Right about the signal. Our lack of issues with the PCM causing this type of an issue is my only basis for asking. That is also one of the two worst years for PCM'* ever designed by GM....I understand..trust me.
