Alternator wires
1 Attachment(s)
Ok. My 95 alt has two wires coming from it. One power wire from the alt to the battery and one red wire that plugs into the alt as a voltage regulator?
Pic: Attachment 68417 I think later years came with two wires that went went into that plug. What exactly are the wires that plug into the alt and what is the difference between the one and two wire plugs? |

So, do you know if I would be able to try this voltage mod?
From ZZP's site: Forget about the voltage booster kits. That's a lot of money for something that can be done for cheap! Besides that, who needs brighter headlights and a faster warming seat heater when you have the car floored? By installing a 1 amp diode in the orange 12 volt reference wire you can raise your system voltage by 1/2 a volt. Cut the orange wire and install the diode in series with the stripe facing the alternator. *This is compatible and works very well with our alternator rewire. The alt rewire does something different. While this mod raises the voltage that the alternator actually puts out, the rewire kit delivers that efficiently and without the resistance losses in the factory wire. |
They are calling out cutting the orange wire and placing the diode in series. Thier pic shows two wires at the connector for the alternator. I'm inclined to think this mod would not be compatible with your existing one red wire set up. But I'm not entirely sure. You could contact tech support at ZZP, no?

Just making sure... We all know that the PCM supplies a power source for the alternator... I believe its 9-12v supplied to the Alt to lite the fields( No I do not totally understand alternators ) In the 95's they generally produce 14-14.5v when cold, after they have ran a while and the battery has charged a bit they usually run in the 13v range...
The later 00+ with the newer style Delphi alternators put out 14v all of the time don't they? __________________ Best Car Insurance | Auto Protection Today | FREE Trade-In Quote |
My 97 runs in the 13's and has a new reman'd delco on it.

you would have to trick the Regualtor in the Alt to demand the 14+ all the time.....and i dont think that the Battery would last long with the Alt Cooking the battery with 14+ all the time

My 95 does the 14-14.5 cold then 13 hot too.
What I wanted to do is run an underdrive alt pulley along with this mod. |
I e-mailed Zoomer and he said he wasn't sure if it would work.
