heat shields for back plugs
I read in one of the prievious posting that the heat shields were a bigger pain to keep on because of grounding and arcing so I left mine off when I did the plugs and wires.
I just want to get the concensus that this was a good idea or should I put them back on?
I put in autolite 606'* and decided on autolite professional wires for medium cost. It was $11 bucks more for beldens. That is what was on it. The plugs in it were autolite 605'* which had shorter insulators. The front ones were white and the ?posts? (center part) were worn down pretty good. Made a huge difference in accelleration.
Still got that odd hesitation in the first 1/4 mile or so, motor hot or cold. Lasts only about 10 or 15 seconds then it is fine.
If it hesitation happens when stone cold it can't be 02 sensor related can it? I ask because I think I'm going to do the fuel filter next......seems like the best next culprit.

If there is grounding or arcing problems to the heat shields, that is the fault of either bad wires or a cracked plug, not the heat shields. The largest drawback of them for some is that it makes it a bit harder to remove the spark plug boot. I prefer to leave mine on, but others have removed them without any apparent problems.

I haven't cleaned either yet, I planned to do the IAC last week but haven't gotten to it. I have done my 3.1 before but have never done anything with a MAP yet. I'll have to look into that.
The thing doggs now when I need it most...3/4 throttle accellerating. If I go steady and easy it behaves, runs up to 3 grand and shifts, shove it down and it balks at me. I didn't notice that when the weather was colder.
I'll git er..eventually.
I'll leave the shields off I think.
Thanks, Lee
