No, this isn't another "How can I get my rear windows to go down all the way?" thread.

It'* kinda the oppisite. I'm interested in tapping in a switch to the main, drivers side, window controls to disable the rear windows. My 95 doesn't have the child window lock that newer GM'* have. is there any way to mod this?

Actually, I want this so the next time Boosty sits in back I can lock him in and take away the window controls.... j/k

It should be possible. I don't have a wiring diagram handy, but from what I remember here, all the window and lock switches route through the driver'* door first. You should be able to put a "kill switch" on the door.

nope....it needs to be reasearched to see that wire controls power and then tap off that to the switch....

it is possible. but the easiest way (a simple switch to disconnect one of the wires) would lose all control over the rear windows. if you know how to wire up a relay you can make this happen just like factory. you would need at least 2 relays (one for each rear window) and i would have to think for a moment if you need it described in detail how exactly to wire it. i don't know the actual pin numbers of the relays...i just know how to wire them, never bothered to look at the pin numbers. i just know what each pin does. as far as a wiring diagram... are you kidding me???? it'* power windows! in an old car! there are only 2 wires that go to each motor. they all rest at ground until you push the switch to either up or down, then one of the wires switches to positive! get a multimeter out. if you don't have a multimeter, you really shouldn't be touching wires there should be a total of 10 wires on that switch. 2 for each window motor, a switched 12 volt wire, and a ground. any good car audio shop should be able to set you up with what you need. or do it for you if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself. but i'm guessing they would charge too much! it'* not something "normal" that they do...

Carefully remove the rear switches and look for a brown wire in cavity A. See if you can easily remove it from the connector and insulate well. If not, cut the wire several inches from the switch connector at a convienent spot. You can later install insulated male/female terminals or bullet connector for simple reconnection. The brown wire supplies +12v to the motor wires when the rear switch is activated. Interrupting this will disable the rear switches but still allow the master switch to remain functional.


EDIT: As I reread your original question, you're looking for a switch to activate/deactivate the rear doors. This can be done but with some effort. You'll need to locate Splice 501which is in the driver'* door. This will split into 4 brown wires: 1 to the master switch and the other three to the remaining doors. Identify the ones that go to the rear doors (and passenger'* door is desired) and wire to switch. You might have a problem finding a switch that fits and/or looks right at the master switch. The wife'* Grand Am has a master switch with the window disable but I think it would not be a direct replacement.

that'* another way to do it, by cutting power to the other 3 switches. that would be the more proper way to do it, however, if the car didn't come with the option from the factory, you would need to either locate the splice for power to all of those switches, or go directly to all 3 doors. It would require a bit of knowledge to do it and not hack it up G-H-E-T-T-O style! or knowledge of relays again. i just checked my service manual for the window switches on an '87, i didn't see the lockout function. my '89 SSE with every option known to man (and some unknown to man) EXCEPT the auto driver window down, didn't have the lockout switch. i can't even think of where there would be room for this lockout switch. that doesn't mean that it didn't exist... i did cut the factory latching relay for auto-down out of a junkyard car, but i don't recall if it had the lockout switch or not. i'm guessing it did now that you mention that. i never even paid attention. anyways, to make a long story short, the previous methods i mentioned (last post) would allow you to do it all in the driver'* door without running any wire from the door into the car. this way (cutting power to the switches) would have you running wire all over the car. it'* really up to you how you want to do it. how much aggravation are you up for
