95 Bonneville - This has been a problem since I got the car, the portion of the steering wheel that controls the high beams was disassembled. I have the pieces but it seems like even if I put it back together, the black piece that slides into the metal bar that pushes in to engage the high beams isn't going to go far enough in to click. I assume this is why it was taken apart in the first place. The high beams are easy enough to turn on now by pushing the metal bar with your thumb, but it would be nice to get it put back together and working properly so that they click on when you pull on the stick for the cruise control. Any suggestions?

I would guess the multifunction switch isn't multifunctioning well any more. Best thing I can see is getting the FSM and the proper tools to take apart the column and fix it properly.

Well as I was saying in the other thread, the multifunction switch is a little bit flighty right now but this problem isn't connected to that. It'* more of a mechanical thing, as in the peice that pushes forward on the bar doesn't have enough force to click the bar. The headlights/high beams seem to run on a different circuit than the fog lamps and parkign lights problem, since the headlights and high beams still work when the fog lamps/parking lights/dash light won't.

You have a 95. Therefore you have the all too special melting switch and connector issue. I'm that positive if you remove the switch and look at it and the connector, you will find the switch was heating up and melting the connector with it.

On my 95..the first symptom was no parking lights.
