So I've done some hunting through topics here trying to find any info that will help me with the dashlight problem I've been having, namely, they're not lighting up at all and neither is my radio clock.
From what I've read it seems to be a rheostat. Going outside to check it out. Was just wondering, is this something I can just pick up at Autozone or VIP and is it expensive?

You may have to replace the whole headlight switch.

AutoZone probably has it and it shouldn't be _too_ expensive. Basically, the rheostat is a ceramic coil assembly that sits at the front of the headlight switch body. You'll be replacing the headlight switch to fix this.

You will be swapping over the existing headlight ****, Twilight Sentinel control ring (if you have one) and the **** shaft onto the new switch body. The part you're replacing here is that part of the headlight switch that'* inside the dash. The switch is a reasonably generic part (i.e. it'* not specifically made for _your_ model and year of _Bonneville_ only) so AutoZone should have it. Biggest detail you probably need to tell them is whether your car has Twilight Sentinel or not. (that extra control ring around the ****)

Not at all. pull the switch **** off. (lever on backside) pull the trim panel from the cig lighter to light switch. 3 screws and wiggle

Right, to get the **** off the shaft, pull it out to the On position and find a small notch in the back. (Standing outside the car and looking in might make it a little easier to see.) Find the little release lever inside that notch. Press it in (i.e. towards the back of the ****) and you can pull the **** off the shaft.

Unfortunately you will need to pull the lower trim panel as well as the upper, because the lower trim panel overlaps the upper one, and it covers... um...

...two of the upper trim panel'* T-15 Torx mounting screws: one just below and to the left of the headlight switch, the other just below and to the right of the cigar lighter. (I've got the lower trim cover off mine at the moment while I do some fiddling with the HUD controller.)

Tips on removing the lower panel are in the full instructions over in TechInfo (see below).

To remove the upper trim panel, find and remove (on a '93) the two lower screws I mentioned, plus the three Torx screws going across the top above the gauges. As you pull the trim panel outwards, remember to unclip the hot lead from the cigar lighter at the right. Don't leave the panel attached at the right end; you'll need a little elbow room for wiggling out the switch, so just take the whole panel off and plop it in the back seat or the trunk so it'* out of the way.

You should be able to wiggle out the headlight switch after removing its mounting screws. If it'* partially blocked by the gauge cluster, remove the cluster mounting screws and you should be able to just push the gauge cluster to the right a little bit to get clearance.

You'll need to swap over the **** shaft to the new switch, as well as the ****. You release the shaft by pulling the **** out to the full On position (headlights), then pressing a release button on the side of the switch body, and at that point you can pull the shaft out of the switch. Press it into the new switch until it clicks.
