2000 ssei, Door lock switch, LOCK works, UNLOCK does not

As the subject says....

The door lock switch *no matter what door* can LOCK the doors just fine, but the UNLOCK function of said switch does not work at all, no matter how hard you press. I checked the child door lock things and they are not engaged, every fuse I could find related to door locks was fine too, and since LOCK works I figured the switch is OK, and what are the odds of BOTH going bad?

Anyway, any help is appreciated! again, 2000 SSEi

The firmness with with you press is not usually directly relational to how well something works. There are very small contacts within and do not take much force to function. It sounds like you may have a bad switch.

Assuming you are talking about the driverside switch not working. Does the passenger side switch lock and unlock the doors?

If not we'll need someone with a manual to chime in and help you locate the wire. I believe our locks work on a reversal of polarity system.

If passenger side does work..then you need to pick up a new switch for the driver side. Local junkyard/wrecker is usually recommended.

I stated in the orig post that both lock switches have the same problem, they cannot UNLOCK but both do LOCK just fine.

the power lock function works fine as far as being manipulated by the gear selector, when I put it in D, the doors LOCK, when I put it in P the doors UNLOCK just fine. Delayed locking works, the key in the door holding it at unlock for 2 secons unlocks all doors, it is simply that no switch WITHIN the car can actually UNLOCK the doors, other than the gear selector function.

Grr.

My Cutlass Supreme had that no-unlock problem. Was a broken wire up in the dash going from the driver's master switch to the relay. I never did end up fixing it :p

Good luck!

Hmmm, thanks for the post, there are some spots I think I could look at to see if that's the issue, gives me hope! Thanks brotha.

Forgot about this tip... Wires going through the little rubber conduit can break from being flexed too many times. Doesn't seem too likely on a 2000, but it does happen on older vehicles. Just something I thought of on my 8 hour drive

*wipes dust off*

NEW OWNER HERE... i figured this would be the best way... if you feel the need to lock this... thats cool

anyways, i would really like to get this fixed, cuz i cant program my new remote until i get the unlock feature working...same problem as stated before

Andrew..andrew andrew...

Link the old thread..lol

Pull out a multimeter and check the switch. It's either the switch, an actuator or the wiring. You'll need to jump in and determine which is bad.

harofreak00 11-19-2005 09:19 PM

ok i dug around... jumped the terminals, switches are bad...

need 2 new ones :)

Are they the same as the older models? I've got a few laying around if they are.
