I have a 93 Pontiac Bonneville SSEi. It appears to be possessed.

Over the past couple of years the door locks would occasionally not work if I used the buttons inside the car. They would respond only to a keyfob. A couple of weeks ago, when I started the car, the door locks cycled twice. This had been happening more. As of today, the door locks started cycling themselves randomly. They started while my wife was driving home and during the 3 or 4 hours that I was digging through it searching for a problem, it did it to me several times. At one point the horn was also affected. Now, I have noticed that the cycling on start issue seems to have stopped. The inside buttons have also quit working. The door lock randomly cycle themselves every so often whether the car is being driven or not.

I found what I can only assume from some other posts is the ground bus. I pulled the bus strip out of the connector several times and re-seated it. The doors still randomly cycle...sometimes while the bus strip was in and sometimes when it was not.

The car has had some latent remains of a failed attempt to put in a remote starter (see previous owner). I spent a couple hours chasing wires, verifying connections, and removing all of those remnants tonight. I think I got them all, but I'm still having the problem.

I'm pretty good at dealing with problems under the hood, but electrical...that'* a different animal all together.

Any suggestions? Exorcism perhaps?

I had similar problems years ago with a Lincoln, the locks would suddenly start clicking on and off randomly.
It turned out the main relay (in the door in my case) had a dirty contact. I was able to take it apart and clean it up, no more problems after that.
Worth a look IMO.

that is what i would have use to hook up the alarm, i would really check the wires it says to hookup for lock/unlock. they cold be chafing together or those pinch together wire t'* always cause issues too.

I'm trying to put it back together to drive it to work tomorrow. It seemed like most of the random locking/unlocking had quit. It would do it occasionally, so I knew it wasn't gone, but no more extended "fits" of locking/unlocking.

So, having removed pretty much all the traces of the remote starter and verifying the connections (they were all soldered connections), I went back to putting the seat back in. The seat is one of those seats that moves up, down, back, forward, tips backward and forward, 3 levels of lumbar, and will give you a hug if you need it. When I plugged everything back in and tried to move it forward, it set the car off into a fit of locking/unlocking.

For roughly a minute, the door locks cycled back and forward. I have a hunch that if I hadn't unplugged the horn, it would have been going off too. I played with the switches for the seats and found that if I messed with them a bit, the "fit" would stop. If I moved the seat until it hit it'* limit, the "fit" would start again. Then, tapping the switch back the other way would make it clear up. I'm not really sure what to make of that, but I thought I would throw it back out there.

There are likely several sources of problems. How'* the battery? Are the terminals clean in between the two positive connectors. There'* a lead insert between them: is the corrosion in between that'* affective the power level when the seat draws a high current?

But the first thing I thought of was my 93. It had a problem with the auto locks going off and then working again after minutes or letting the car sit. The AC control panel also defaulted to defrost and the AC compressor turned on along with the engine cooling fans that come on with the AC compressor.

I decided it was the buss for the grounds. The driver'* side has one and the passenger side has one. If you're in a climate where there'* snow, rain, salt, carried in onto the carpet that keeps that area wet, corrosion may be on the buss.

It would take some circuit checking in the Factory Service Manual to see if the power seat and the locks share a ground. But you might try compressing (hitting) that buss connection area with your foot to see if there'* any effect. It doesn't look too hard to get at to check either.
