Default Air Pump

For an review please see my post entitled "TCS/ABS lights on WHY???" Anyway, my air pump has issuses I believe. Right when I start my car the pump comes on and seemingly doesn't shut off, also it is very loud, sounds like sombody has a coffee can half full of marbles in my trunk and is shaking the SH** out of it. It is loud enough that when I drive by sombody on the sidewalk they turn and look at my car, not because it looks good, but because it sounds like crap. It doesn't matter if I am in "perfom ride" or "touring ride" it does the same thing, and when I change the buttons, it seems to change the ride like it'* supposed to. Is my pump shot, is something else broke, I searched through ALOT of the forum and didn't see anything that resembled my problem. Please help, I just want my car to be quiet again, like it used to be. Thanks in advance.

Please don't double post if that'* what you did..

You have this right..air pump as a seperate post than the TCS/ABS.

Yes.. in a nutshell your pump is shot or you have the worlds largest leak at a strut or air line.

I used a pressure gauge hooked to the output from the pump to see if mine was bad. Had an internal leak and was running loud similar to your description.

Test for pressure building and holding at the pump. (my gauge only went to 10psi and would drop quickly once I turned the pump off)

How would I tell if the pump broke just because it is old, or if the pump broke because it was on all the time due to an air leak in one of the struts. I realize it might be on all of the time if it is not working properly and can't air up the bags enough to activate the switch. I do know the switch is working because I can lift/lower the rear end of the car and the pump turns on/off. What do you guys think? Did the pump just crap out or do you think it crapped out because it was on all of the time due to a leak. Since we know the pump is shot, is it my only choice to replace the pump (~$300 from GMPARTSDIRECT) or are there other alternitives to my situation? Also is the pump serviceable at all?

Please adivse

Thanks

do the elc trick for us for a test. pull the 2 wire connector on the assembly in the trunk, on the rear seat, lower right hand corner. turn ign key to run, push the "on" air button by trunk latch.

does the pump turn on
does the car go up

if it does go up, pull elc fuse in max relay center in engine bay on firewall (30amp)

does it stay up

If it sounds like marbles in a can, then you have the same issue that I do.

The pump works, but the air is very slow to come out.

Will it hurt anything if I just unplug the power connection down by the pump and not have load leveling? Will my "perform ride" and "touring ride" buttons still work, or do they require the use of the pump to do whatever it is they do. By the way, what happens when I switch between the ride types??? What exactly occurs and how?

I have alot of mowing to do, I probably won't be able to do any of the tests you what me to do for a couple days, but I will reply on the results of the test, One quick question about the test, you mention that I should "see if the car rises" , how long should that take? 5 seconds, 1 minute, I don't know, can anybody answer this for me.

later

If you get a gauge..and check the pump as I suggested, you can nail down where the issue is.

If you disconnect and go w/o your ride quality will suffer..but your CCR structs should still perform fine

What sort of gauge did you use, and how long do you let it pump up and then rest before you know the results.
