1994 Bonneville HVAC
 

Hi all..
This is my first post here. I am trying to help a freind who has a 1994 Bonnevulle.
I don't see any nameplates on this car, so I'm assuming it's an SE model. The car has the 3800 V/6 non-supercharged engine. And it does not have climate control.
Here is the problem, the HVAC fan does not work. It up and quit. The only heat I can get in the car is if I turn the knob to heater or defrost position and the temp knob to the heat position. After driving the car for a few miles we feel heat coming thru the vents.
I suspect the fan motor has died. I was going to unplug the wire to it and run a jumper wire to the battery (with the fan switch on high) but it appears to have two wires going to the motor at first glance.
If it is two terminal which one do I connect the jumper wire to? Will I mess up something by doing this? Also, which fuse/s and or relays control this system?

If you have nothing from the fan I would check the fuses first. There are a bunch of fuses on these things and relays. Main fuses are under the dash on the drivers side. Then there are sum under the hood too. Relays under the hood on the firewall pass side. Also there are relays on the footwell side of the car under the dash on the pass side. I can't remember the 2 wires going to the blower but one should be black or a dark color. That will be the NEG and the other probably red or yellow or light color will be the POS side if you want to jumper it and check. Was the blower making noise before it quit? It could also be the resister that mounts down in the air box there right above the blower if memory serves me. This happened on my Malibu and it was the resistor but I sill had high fan only. Someone more knowledgeable than me will probalby post for you too.

Could be the Fan Motor, Could be the switch, Could even be the resistor... If the Switch is selectd to high speed, and the Blower runs that would tell you the High Speed Relay is working..

But there system will require research to get it all figured out..

Thanks for all your suggestions.. It's been awhile since I have worked on this type of vehicle and should have remembered to check the simple things first.
I went on the owners description and went after the blower motor, but after getting it to work I knew that was not the problem. After checking the fuses in the system, I went to the inside of the car and started to check the operation of the control head. That's when the light bulb lit up!
I pulled the knobs off the fan and the ac/heat/defroster switches.. Well Duh! The center of the knob on the right switch was rotating on the shaft.. It sorta felt like it was working but after looking at the back of the knob and seeing the cracks, I swapped the knobs and got the switch to come off the "off" position and we got heat..
Problem fixed, and freind is happy!
Yeah, I told them to buy a few new knobs and save the old good ones for spares..
