Wrinkle Paint not setting up like it should!
 

I got the 96-97 M90 back together and painted it.
First it was completely cleaned with Super Clean, then wiped with a damp rag.
Then it was sprayed with a light coat of Krylon Wrinkle and stuck in the oven to back at 200* for 15 minutes.
Took out and let cool for about 5 minutes and sprayed a slightly heavier coat on, but not overly heavy.
Reheated for 15 minutes at 200*.
Cooled and then coated with a fairly heavy coating, to the point I was afraid it was going to run.
I probably should have baked it in the oven, but instead I let it dry overnight last night. I wasn't getting but just enought wrinkle to barely tell it wasn't a absolutely smooth when I felt it this morning so I gave it another heavy coat and let it dry today.
Still not hardly any wrinkle. :x At least not compared to Will's.
I snapped these pics this evening to show what it looks like.
Any tips before I waste another can which has to be special ordered?

could you take a pic of the can...something doesn't look right

looking back at these pictures, it doesn't look very finished when wet, but when dry, it attains full wrinkle...

The thing I remember reading is that there is an evaporating chemical in the paint, and when it evaporates, that's the thing that leaves "wrinkles." You may just have to let it dry longer.

IDK if that stuff is the same way, But the wrinkle paint my dad uses requires heat to help set up the wrinkled finish. Not heat from an oven or anything, like heat you'd get from siting it out in the sun on a warm day, or a hair dryer. Heat and some time ;)

Did you heat up the SC before spraying? I think that was a key part of willwren's process since it speeds up drying increasing the wrinkle effect.

don't apply the coats so thick :shock:

you need to heat every coat, and since you didnt heat the last 2 coats it didn't wrinkle. Did you do this in your cold garage? that would be a problem.

I was banned from using the oven when I did mine. At first i used a heat lamp, let it heat soak, then painted...placed back under the lamp, repeat.

Then I got smart....I used my grill ;)

You didn't follow my recipe. Do that, and it'll be better. You need to try preheating and one more thin but very uniform coat before going any further.

I painted all mine in the cold, but pre-heated first, then did warm oven full cures. It's detailed very thoroughly here. Matt's finish didn't come out just right either.
