Default Mirror and door clips

My girlfriends father turned in to my car a little while ago and snapped my drivers side mirror off. I just got the mirror in and am planning on replacing it to night or tomorrow.
What I need to know is what do you recommend for a primer so I can have it protected before I have it painted?
How many door clips are needed?

If you have any tips for painting it or if you think that it will not matter leaving it bare plastic for two months or so let me know.

The reason for not painting it is that my girlfriend backed into my car denting the hood, cracking the grill and chipped one light, luckily that was the light that I needed to replace any way. So I'm going to wait to have the car painted or faded in till I have the hood pulled from a junk yard.
