I've used the cheapo kits in the past (years ago) but never a good-quality kit with a good reputation.

The problems:

The intended solution:

I figure even if I mismatch it by a little bit, the end result will be better than the problems as they exist right now.

waiting for the after pics :D

willwren 05-20-2007 04:03 PM

First step is the backing material for the tear, and filling both to the surface with the clear vinyl repair adhesive/filler. That has to dry for 4 hours. I just did that, so I should be doing the color work about 5pm tonight.

leftd90 05-20-2007 05:01 PM

yeah good luck on that...

BonneMeMN 05-20-2007 05:30 PM

I had pretty much the exact cut on my seat, sat in it with a screwdriver in the back pocket...

Used that kit, My color part was probably too thick, some of it has flaked off, but it is in a high wear area as well.

Mista_SC 05-20-2007 06:23 PM

leave it like it is, the tear builds character ;) how long has that bothered you? I'd just do the rip in the seat, that other one isn't even noticable it's not like you have a lot of spectating females in your car :P anyway....... WTH do you use that SSEi for? track/daily driver?

willwren 05-20-2007 07:23 PM

Half the year, this is my daily driver. And it obviously bothers me, and I do care, or I wouldn't have purchased the kit in the first place. I have a full car at lunch at work every day, and that back seat puncture is the only interior flaw besides the rip in the front passenger seat bottom.

With these two fixed, the interior will be nearly mint. Leaving only the hood to deal with.

Not perfect, but damn close. Sure beats a couple holes. Still working on the seat.

95SLE 05-20-2007 09:16 PM

Looks great. How did you achieve the textured look?

willwren 05-20-2007 09:17 PM

It comes with texture pads. Put on the goop, then the pad, then heat it with the little iron.

I think the green would have been easier to match. Even on the tan vinyl, after the door, I had to adjust the color for the seat. And the color changes after you re-slime the vinyl and leather with your favorite jizz.

Nice and looks better.... I like it... ;)

Not too shabby! I'm curious to see how the seat turns out.

And some random underhood whorage. It's time to clean and detail this. Worst it's been since I've owned the car:

The seat actually looks better from an angle. A little farther away. I'll have to go shoot another pic in a bit to show you.

Structurally, the repair seems very tough and pretty permanent. Sure beats that rip. (this particular rip was from a passenger I had in the car at 150mph, her ass puckered up and when she tried to get out of the car, she tore the leather)

BonneMeMN 05-20-2007 09:57 PM

Yeah the under patch and glue work well. Matching grey was a PITA... It needed some hue work over just the white and black mixed..

dillcc 05-20-2007 10:06 PM

Nice plates by the way ;)

Thanks, Bob. I thought you'd like 'em.

Here's the 'distant don't look too close shot' of the seat repair:

leftd90 05-20-2007 10:57 PM

looks good, very good improvement from what they both looked like before., where did you pick that up at?

willwren 05-20-2007 11:00 PM

Autozone has it. And there are some VERY non-observant people here.

NAPA probably has it also. Get the kit with the little heater thingy.

jdq 05-20-2007 11:01 PM

10 times better, nice job

sonoma_zr2 05-20-2007 11:03 PM

your oil dipstick is in upside down

willwren 05-20-2007 11:09 PM

I'll fix that tomorrow. Just had my oil changed. ;)

That's not the pic that has the interesting content. But nearly every other pic does.

Lowrider0308 05-20-2007 11:20 PM

Bo's leash in the zilla?

petraman 05-20-2007 11:23 PM

Randman's custom door panels?

willwren 05-20-2007 11:27 PM

dillcc got the custom plates.

Randman's custom door panels (all 4) and the two custom visors were shipped to me after ditchhopper was totalled. I've had them for at least 3 or 4 months. ;)

I heard there were some questions asked at NEBF about where they ended up. :D

the leather looks 100% better, couldnt even tell they were fixed if i wasnt lookin :)

willwren 05-21-2007 10:16 PM

Got good reviews from co-workers on our lunch run today.

Seat held up well to a passenger today too. I might get creative and actually simulate the stitching with a lighter color down the seam line on the seat.

BonneMeMN 05-22-2007 12:29 AM

Walmart has the kit too ;)
