Default new onstar? new antenna?

i guess we can still use onstar now? i dont really follow the service in general since i dont find it THAT useful but i guess its going digital or something now so we can still use it?

my question is. anyone know how (or where i can go) to remove the antenna and install a newer one? i know i dont HAVE to, but i WANT to install the best one i can get if anyone knows which that may be.

p.*. the one on the GXP looks nice since its centered. is that the best antenna out there?

OnStar service will be terminated as of December 31, 2007 for customers who have analog only hardware. This consists of both an antenna, but more importantly the hardware module(*) in the vehicle. For the Bonneville, this consisted of 2 modules from 2000 - 2002 and 1 module from 2003 - 2005. The 2005 model year is already dual mode and doesn't require any change. 2003 - 2004 require an upgrade as the car is analog/digital ready. Prior to 2003 there is no upgrade available and OnStar service will be terminated at the end of the year.

There are a few GM lines prior to 2003 which can be upgraded but not the Bonneville. There would be no purpose in upgrading your antenna for the remaining two months you could have the service.

Put your VIN in at this site and see if you can be converted.

If not It is still worth a call to your local GM service advisor.

The issue here basically boils down to whether the vehicle has one or two modules. The upgrade for the 2003 - 2004 involves removing the original module and plugging in a new one. It is virtually a plug-and-play process with some Tech 2 and OnStar configuration. The 2000 - 2002 Bonnevilles use a two module system. The changes to wiring allowing a single module to be installed vesus two are fairly significant. This in inself makes the process less than attractive from a technical standpoint. Yes, If GM so desired it could be done. Due to the increased complexiity and the number of subscribers they would likely yield I suspect it just isn't worth their time. This would involve re-engineering whereas in the newer vehicles they can simply plug in a module already in production from a more recent model year.

I just got a note from OnStar that a kit will be available soon for my 2001 and can be upgraded for $15 plus one year subscription.
