what to do about tint?

got a dilemma.

mass state laws require all windows to be tinted to allow 35% or more light in with no more than 35% reflective. quite frankly, thats too light for me. i want something like BITCHIN BONNIES tint. dunno what it is? 20%? limo tint (whats that? 10%?)? my brother who is now 29 used to get pulled over all the time for speeding or other various things, and yet he never got ticketed for dark tint. how should i go about this and what do i do about inspection stickers?

and is 3m the best brand?

Bonneville92V688 06-17-2007 01:51 AM

I wouldn't even attempt anything that is over the legal limit. It would suck to dump money into it and then be forced to peel it off when you get pulled over. Just because your brother didn't get pulled over, doesn't mean you won't. ;) Just a warning.

ferullo0 06-17-2007 02:02 AM

yeah. im not sure if MA has a law where they have to pull u over for something else first, like the seatbelt law. but im pretty convinced i wanna go with something pretty dark. i mean ive seen so many bonnies here with realy dark tint all around.. theres gott a be a bunch of em eh?? i just need help finding out how to go about getting inspected and stuff and who makes the best?

caseball2051 06-17-2007 10:28 AM

hey man im in mass too. where you at?

and as far as tint i had mine done by sound FX in pawtucket? maybe?

they did 35% and itwasnt too too bad. this was on my firebird a few years back for my first car. i know people who have 20% and dont get hassled.

its alot of money to spend if yyour having it dont by someone else and hten have to take it off

.but if your doin it on your own, go for as dark as you want.,

willwren 06-17-2007 10:52 AM

I have 35% on both cars. I like it. It's still pretty dark, keeps the car cool, and doesn't affect what I can see in my mirrors at night. Go legal.

caseball2051 06-17-2007 11:43 AM

it is a good darkness.

its alot darker than it appears from pics off the web.

jwakamud 06-17-2007 01:27 PM

heres mine:
https://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f...6/IMG_1663.jpg

tint law in oklahoma is something on the order of no darker than 35% in front, obviously mine is illegal.

ive been pulled over a couple of times since i got it tinted, but never for tinting and ive never been ticketed for it. i dont know if the cops that got me just didnt care, or if it was because i roll ALL my windows down upon being pulled over. this makes it so the tinting cant be tested without my permission or so im told, anyway] and the officers dont have to worry about what im hiding behind my tinted windows.

if i were you, id go the legal limit. my last car was legal and the difference between the tints, IMO, isnt worth having to worry about getting a ticket for it.

I am in the same position. The back windows can be limo but the fronts are supposed to be 35 max. I think I'll just go with the 20 all around. I drive my car sensibly and don't attract attention to myself. I just hope that the illegal tint and lack of a front license plate isn't enough to draw attention (and I don't think it is). I figure if the music is kept at a reasonable level and I don't drive ridiculous then it will be alright. Maybe my reasoning is all screwed up, I don't know.

You guys should move to Michigan, no laws against how dark tint can be

But to answer your question, 3M is the best tint, especially with the lifetime warranty against bubbling and fading to purple

Can you roll down your back windshield, too?

Not all cops have the light testers with them either, which could be a reason people haven't been hassled.

I know some shops have you sign a waiver if you get your windows tinted darker than legal limit. I just got my car inspected, and tint was one of the things on the sheet. Whether they actually test for it or not, I don't know. If you have any friends that work at inspection garages, give them a call. It can't hurt to stop by one and ask the guy doing inspection stickers if he will check for tint, or if you leave a case of beer in the backseat if he'll let it slide. When is your registration due up? If it's soon, get it inspected then bring it ot the tint shop, nothing to worry about for 12 months.

Basically if you can get it to pass inspection and are willing to take the chance on a ticket or the cop making you rip it up, go for it. If not, you're SOL.

its a safety thing.

you wanna be able to see in peoples car as you walk up to them. more for security than anything else.

wrong. in allendale [michigan, just outside of grand rapids], i was pulled over for having tint on my front windows -- any tint at all is illegal*. unless theyve changed the law in the last three years.

oklahoma has no law on how dark the rear window can be.

EDIT: to clear up a miscommunication and remove an in-thread off-topic discussion, it should be noted that by the prior statement, the author meant tint going all the way down the front windows. the author sees no reason why anyone would only want the top four inches of their front windows [not windshield] tinted, as it looks horrendous. th statement should read "any tint on the bottom [x-4, where x is the window height in inches] inches of the windows are illegal"

Your front window tint was probably more than 4 inches long, which is against the law, but as far as how dark the tint can be, there are no restrictions

all the posts are nice. ive set my mind on 20% so i dontt hink u can get me off it, no offense. i drive pretty sensibly unless somebody pushes me so i mean, i have no reason to worry about it. ive only gotten 1 ticket in my lifetime for doing 52 in a 35 so its not all that bad.

as for rolling the windows down, dont the back windows only go down half way? or can that be changed?

but yeah, im gonna see what i can do about MAKING a friend in the inspection industry and go with the 20%. is limo tint 20%? 20% seems to be a popular number.

ferullo0 06-17-2007 10:06 PM

OH and what about factory tint? im thinking i might need new windows so is there any way for like, maybe GM, to have factory tinted windows to a % of my choice?

like i think cop cars have factory tint to that really dark %.. or maybe im wrong

caseball2051 06-17-2007 10:45 PM

get a sticker and then tint. not many ppl will hassle you for a sticker. trust me.

I don't know, but if you get the windows, bring them to the tint shop before you install them it'll probably save you some serious cash. it's a lot easier to tint windows with them off the car. Just something to consider.

Pearl_bonnie02 06-18-2007 11:22 AM

Our law states 35% but I have 20%. I havent got hassled yet. And I have a 6 inch strip on the windshield

Its not even worth getting a strip on the front windows, looks retarded having a 4" strip IMO

ferullo0 06-18-2007 06:56 PM

ahh no sully, i THINK u misunderstood. i wanna know if i can buy windows pre-tinted to 20%, so theres not even a tiny chance of bubbling (which im not afraid of anyways, i jsut want to know if its possible to buy factory tinted windows to a tint of 20%) anyone know? either way i think im getting 20%.. just wanna get it the best way

DONKY4444 06-18-2007 07:58 PM

I say go for the 20%. I live in Michigan and were not supposed to have anything more than the top 4 inches on the front windows like prior post say but that looks like crap. I have everything but the windshield done in 20% and on my SSEi I had for 2 years I only had one cop say anything about it and that was leaving the bar at 2 am with 5 people in my car. I have a doctors note that says I need tinted windows so even when I do get stopped for it I get let go. The note lists two conditions where bright light causes sever migranes.

ReallyAGXP 06-18-2007 09:47 PM

I have Metallic tint that is illegal in Most places but Ontario (Looks Factory) I drive all over NYS and have never had a problem but with out of state plates and you can see in thats the big issue to the cops being able to see in.
