dblack1 01-17-2005 01:47 PM

i usually clean my rims with the soap i wash the car with

95SLE 01-17-2005 09:55 PM

Eagle 1 A2Z will work wonders. I would also recommend a claybar for the tough spots.

BonneMeMN 01-18-2005 04:20 AM

Any alloy wheel cleaner should work fine for you.

Hey guys I have found a good wheel cleaner that gets about all the brake dust off my wheels. It is Armor All Wheel Cleaner. Comes in a silver bottle with yellow trigger. I have tried the Meguiar's and it did not do crap most of the brake dust stayed.

Deb here is a link to one of the claybar manufactures.

Basically a claybar will remove contaminates from the clear coat of a car's finish. However there are two schools of thought on this subject. Some say that the claybar pulls the contaminates out of the clear coat and others say that it just sheers the contaminates off level with the surface of the clear coat.

A claybar is the second step to doing a full Monty detail on your car.

I know this is very brief but if you want more detail just ask or PM me. There are others on this forum that enjoys detailing their Bonneville’s and the pictures show their dedication.

Believe me detailing is addictive and therapeutic.

Thanks 95SLE...looks like I'll be getting some of their products....now if Spring would just get here already..........

Where do i get some of those? i am tired of my finger being raw and sore from cleaning the nookes and crannines in my honey comb style rims.

itsnitro 02-27-2005 05:54 PM

there is where i got mine.. i need some more for the rear! cheap for what they do.. now i have to do for the front is take a nice clean rag and wipe them down

DebinMN 02-28-2005 02:48 PM

Those dust shields are cool....but...I'm wondering if they will hold in too much heat and cause the rotors to warp....they're vented for a reason.....and if the dust isnt being forced onto our nice rims....how does it escape with the dust covers on....

yeah, i second that heat concern . . .

2000SilverBullet 02-28-2005 11:15 PM

For really really corroded aluminum wheels try using a plastic brillo soap pad.
It worked wonders on the 26 year old T/A snowflakes. The previous owner never cleaned them. They were totally black and oxidized before I cleaned them and now they have their shine back. Luckily not pitted too badly.
I can't believe how neglected this car was. :beating:

well the shields are vented some they have slits in them to aloud heat to escape. i've had them on for bout a month now... ill let u know if any thing happens.. doubt it would. I have seen them on Mercedes Benz also. we'll see!

dbeast420 03-07-2005 05:16 AM

have had them on mine for about 2 or 3 months now and I love them.
Takes a little getting used to the look but after a while you don't even notice them.

I've used Eagle 1 products for my wheels. It works very well at getting most of the brake dust/dirt off. As for your trim piece, have you tried double stick tape ?

Hi,

I have the 17 inch high polished Aluminum iwith Bright Chrome rims. Would it be safe to use this stuff on them? How delicate is the chrome finish to solvents? I like the Armorall products very much.

regards,

Darren

For the rims those newish mrclean sponge thingys work REALLY well one dosent last long though. Good thing they come in boxes of 8 ;-)

MOS95B 07-01-2005 11:00 AM

Those dust shields are great, but for 35 bucks a pair, I think I'll just wash my wheels. Or ghetto something up myself....

I some how magically got ceramics last time I was in the break shop, so on the GA I don't have issues. But back when I had the bonne with the chromies on, I was told not to use anything stronger then car soap-but I don't know if chrome rims are really that delicate.

opensourceguy 07-03-2005 11:54 PM

Its strange, I don't seem to have brake dust issues on my car. My wheels are somewhat like a brake dust shield, since they don't have a whole lot of flow, and my rotors are fine. I wouldn't worry too much about it, I am sure it gets plenty of ventilation.

http://www.geeks-unite.com/IM000298.JPG.

However, to clean them, I just use the regular car wash [Meg's Crystal Car Wash], but I use it after I have washed the car, so my gross tire brush dirt doesn't rub off on my baby :)
