wax on a vinyl?

I'm sure everyone here has seen the vinyl skull I have on my trunk. I've noticed here lately it is really dried out and chalky, like it's ruined and I now need to take it off :? . The only thing I can think of that may have done this is the fact I've been waxing it a lot more here lately than when I first put the vinyl on. Does anyone know if a wax can dry out a vinyl like this?

probably just the wax on there?

Otherwise maybe it's outside a lot in the harsh sun, and it's just being worn too quick...

maybe its a sign?

Unless the vinyl was rated for UV, this will happen over time.

Most vinyl is sold with either an indoor, or an outdoor durability scale. Most of the stuff I have is 6-8 year outdoor vinyl..... but what they don't tell you is that is only an average, and it's taken from a vertical surface. One where light might not hit it all hours of the day. If your vinyl is on a horizontal surface, or sees light/rain etc, the life will dramatically decrease. Dark colors are even worse. Even with the best vinyl, your decals will shrink over time..... after all... it's just plastic.

Mine is on the curved part of the trunk under the spoiler.

I thought about the sun, too, but it's really crazy. I've had the vinyl on there for probably a year and a half. It was always really glossy and smooth, and yesterday out of nowhere it was all messed up. :?

DId you by chance get anything like spray nine on it ?

What wax have you been using?

ga93sle 06-06-2007 10:25 PM

I haven't got anything on it except for the wax and when I wash the car.

The wax I use is like the cheapest Turtle Wax paste you can buy.

The Turtle Wax explains it ;)
