Steering wheel paint removal?
Steering wheel paint removal?
The gray paint on my steering wheel is starting to come off in the places where my hands touch. Just wondered if any one has removed all the paint exposing the black rubber like material underneath. |
Can you shoot a pic? There's no paint on my steering wheel at all.
As an idea, consider Castrol SuperClean. It's an automotive degreaser typically sold in the purple gallon or trigger sprayer at NAPA. Model Railroaders use it to remove paint from plastic parts. It eats automotive type paints very well if you soak them in it. I used it to remove the paint from the GTA hood vents before repainting them and installing them on my car and driverjohn's. I also used it to 'etch' the OEM paint on my hood before priming. It works well. |
Oh you moved it to Detailing & Appearance.
No pictures don’t have a digital camera now. Looks like gray steering wheel with black patches. Don’t know what it would look like with a black wheel and a gray center section. I was hoping some one had already tried remoting the paint.. |
We're all leather here.

sorry to get off topic but is that superclean the stuff the stuff that also safely cleans supercharger rotors? |
The leather or plastic has probably just worn and lost color. Get a nice wheel cover to replace it ;)

Not long after that, I cleaned 2 other TB's for some porting testing, and it worked very quickly on that carbon buildup (high-mileage wrecker TB's). It's great stuff. However, for this application, it would be best to remove the steering wheel. |
