also, any suggustions on what to clean/degrease the engine with?
I use Simple Green automotive to degrease, then CD-2 to detail the engine. Here'* what she looks like after the full treatment:

Simple Green on the motor will get the grease of the engine. They sell engine shine in all the auto parts stores.

i'm no expert, but i have heard bad things about simple green - it is corrosive.

the best stuff i have heard to use is Orange Fantastik. it does a great job - fantastic even!

Simple Green is a water based degreaser. I read the same stuff before I tracked down a couple articles. Basically you're not reccomended to STORE stuff in the degreaser (duh), but its ok for cleaning and spraying off.

I have had nothing but excellent luck with basically any citrus degreaser personally.
Works like a charm on anything, even used internal engine parts..trust me on that one lol
CD-2 is a god send.

Excuse my ignorance, what'* CD-2? :?

I forget what I used, but it was made by Gunk I think...had an orange cap. Works well with a toothbrush or wirebrush to get the details. I miss my old clean 3800 engine:

As far as tires go, again, I forget the name...but it'* a gel, purple in color, smells good enough to eat. It is the longest lasting tire shine I've used, resists water better than anything else in my experience. It'* not as quick to apply as the sprays of course, but it'* worth it.

You may get a little spin-off on your car, in fact, you WILL get some, but isn't really harmful, especially if cleaned up soon enough. I've found even with the sprays you get spin-off.

CD-2 Engine Detailer. Awesome product. Makes your engine bay look like a museum showpiece.
