SLE overlays
today was a nice enough day to get out there and remove the badges off the doors. Its a pretty easy job actually and I prefer the new look with the black overlay.
this adhesive was a real pain to get off, had to just pick at it with some goo gone https://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j...s/IMG_2423.jpg https://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j...s/IMG_2424.jpg I was alittle suprised there were tiny scratches underneath the emblem but i dont know if that was due to my removeable technigue or cause by the emblem. https://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j...s/IMG_2425.jpg just a pic of the old emblem https://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j...s/IMG_2426.jpg emblem with the new black overlay https://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j...s/IMG_2428.jpg dont mind the dull/scrape mark to the top left of the emblem on the door. It was there when i bought the car. https://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j...s/IMG_2434.jpg https://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j...s/IMG_2436.jpg https://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j...s/IMG_2435.jpg |
why did you remove it?
The black does stand out a bit more 8) looks great! |
because i couldnt stand looking at the little dirt and beginnings of rust starting to form behind the emblem and I have been itchin to clay bar that area for a while now. It makes me feel allot better now knowing its clean behind the emblem and that theres no rust forming. and it just looks allot cleaner.

good plan on removing it.. it looks great
at least you have clear coat behind your badges  |
Oh, good thinking!
what exactly did you do to remove 'em, i grabbed an '93 SSE emblem one off a parts car and i ended up putting cracks all over it from where it bent a little. |
basically i just layered it with go gone and then waited a couple of minutes and tryed pushing it back and forth to get it loose. Then i had my girlfriend start prying it open while i took a very small flat tip screwdriver and started cutting/breaking away the adhesive from the emblem. it was pretty easy actually, just getting the initial start of peeling off the emblem was the hardest part. like i said above, it was a real pain getting the black adhesive from the door, thats what took the longest.

screwdriver
try dental floss or fishing line next time ;) |
lol yeah i knew i was going to get some crap for that. well it all turned out well, but yeah fishin line would have worked great probably.
