Removing swirls in paint

When I bought my car I noticed the drivers side of the hood was covered in swirls. Just that half too. I assume somebody was using a machine to wax/polish it and didn't know what they were doing. My question is, does anybody know a way to remove this type of swirl without a machine. I do not have access to one but would like to get both sides of the hood looking the same. I would take pictures but the swirls dont show up on the white paint. Thanks

I've heard Meguiars ScratchX works pretty good, but takes a lot of time by hand.

I have good luck with this stuff.
They make it for LIGHT and DARK cars.
It gets the fingernail marks off the underside of the door handles too.

The 3M product works well. I have some that I used to use on my black 95. You should be able to find it at most larger GM dealerships.
