The quick answer is a lot of use. However you need to be careful when entering and exiting the car as not to place a lot of pressure and sliding friction on the bolsters. Dirt is probably the number one enemy of leather so you need to keep the surface clean. If your seats are heated it is even more important to deep clean the seats at least 2 times a year. Deep cleaning four times a year will keep the leather conditioned better.

Well since the 3 of us that have posted in this thread have the same type of seats I agree with everything 95SLE just said.

Dirt is the biggest killer. I try to clean and condition the leather every month, it gets hard to in the winter, but for at least 9 months in the year....I clean em once a month. I have also heard wonders of a product called Lexol. If you can find some I suggest you use it.

Leather is very high maintenance.
There are many grades and qualities of leather. You can bet that the leather on our seats is not the finest quality...$$. GM likes to maximise profits.

A big dog and 2 kids. No problem, if properly maintained. I use leather cleaner and conditioner at least twice a year, and they look factory new to this day.

I use Meg'* and Turtle leather cleaner. Used 'em everyday in the summer. Seats went from disgusting, to decent. Still not quite satisfied. I only have a few burnt spots, and I want to remove the rear seat [where most of the damage is at], and just soak it in leather cleaner for a few days. That'll surely clean 'er up. [and by soak, I mean grab a cloth, and soak it in cleaner, and place the cloth over the affected area.

I have some cracks in my leather on my door handles, i was thinking of going with the electrical tape and super glue methode of sealing the cracks, but does anyone have a good way to seal them up?
