Default painting calipers? and cleaning wheels

Hey guys I was wondering whats a good product to use to clean your rims? I have decent amount of braking pad crap on my rims and I'm going to be taking tires off and cleaning the inside and outside and was wondering what would be a good product to use just incase there tough to take off?

Also I really would like to paint my calipers red. But I don't know if you have to take them off or not? Can you paint them on your rotors or take them off??

You can paint them on the car. Be sure to use the right paint of course though.

Probably better to take them off just in case you get any paint on the pads or the rotors

It would be easier to do a good job off of the car. or you can mask off pretty much your whole car and hope you dont have to claybar any overspray.

They sell paint for callipers at most auto parts stores I've even seen it at wallyworld. Just take extra care when bleeding them after install be sure all the air is out of all the lines. So yeah I would bleed all four corners once their back on. IIRC start with the one furthest from the mastercylinder then the next furthest and so on.

In my experience, high temp engine paint holds up better than the brake paint kits that they sell.

What I've done in the past is used tons of brake cleaner and a wire brush, and cleaned them. Afterwards, use some strong degreaser, and clean them again. Rinse with water once done, use a heavy grit sand paper and hit the calipers just lightly enough to break up the surface, primer (several light coats, no heavy coats), paint(again several light coats, then clear(several light coats).

If you wanna do a little extra, pick up some decals that say Bonneville, and apply them while the last coat of paint is drying. Then put the clear coat over it. Add'* a little extra to the brakes.

I used a plasic bag, ripped a small hole in it, and then stretched it around my caliper.
Worked great!
