OK.. I went to Wally World near my work to pick up some precision small bit screwdrivers.. and when I came back out Some idiot had hit my car and took off !!!!!

Well needless to say I was royally ticked.. trust me.. Tamara heard it all over the phone.. and that was after I calmed down.. I will post some pics up as soon as I can.

Well.. now I have black ( and red from the other guys paint ) on the left front of my bumper and the side of it.. I was going to just touch it up.. but decided to do my whole front bumper next month.. my question is it'* plastic rubber kinda of material.. so I don't know if automotive paint will work.. I would also need to color match it ( if I can find a good reputable shop in the area ).. so obviouslly I will have to sand it all down.. my question is with wat before primer? What after grid after primer? How many coats of white?? what grid of sandpaper in between coats? and ditto for clear coats??

Don't mind the dirty bug kills on the rest of the car.. the pics don't do it justice.. the plastic is scuffed too.. so I will have to sand that part smooth also

Regular paint is fine, You DO need to add a flexible additive to both the primer and the color/clear coat paints. Any automotive paint supply shop should be able to sell you a can of the additive.
Clean it up with 120 grit first and work your way up, you can also use heat if the plastic is 'lifted'. Just work small areas and keep an eye on the surrounding paint, use a damp cloth to cool.

I don't know how well I am with a heat gun.. so maybe sanding it back to smotth might be a better idea? How far of a sanding should I do on the bumper before I can coat it? I know down to bare material is best.. but I'm lazy and elbow grease for the whole thing would take forever.

So any ideas of how many coats of primer/white/clear? Just so I have an idea of how many cans of each to get.
I'm assumin 1 can of primer will do? since 1 coat should be sufficient?

Drifter, the flexible additive Pontiac Dad referred to comes as a liquid you have to mix. If you are happy to spot paint the area, (instead of the whole bumper) you can try a PreVal sprayer. It is a little kit that sells for about $10 that lets you mix your own paint, reducer, flexible additive, or whatever in a 4 or 6 ounce bottle that comes with its own little separate aerosol propellant can that screws onto the top of the paint bottle. You can buy extra propellant cans and bottles too. The quality of the spray is not as good as a regular gun, that is, the propellant doesn't provide anywhere near the pressure you get from a regular spray gun, so you have to keep the paint on the thin side. Also, It is hard to get a good match when you are spot painting.

Option 2: remove the bumper, clean it very well to remove any silicone or wax BEFORE you sand it, sand it to 320 all over and take it to a body shop to have them shoot it. I did this with a hood once, and the guy only charged me $75 for a professional job, cause he didn't have to remove, prepare, or install.

Thanx Bill.. I will also look into that option.. but again.. I'm lookin for a reputable shop near my place.. unless I steal Tamara'* car for the weekend and drive back to my bro cause I think he had a shop done his body kit to match his color of the car and it looks identical. When you mentioned spray gun.. a light came on !!! Tamara'* dad also has an air compressor.. hee hee.. I wonder where I can get the paint separetly though.. as Crappy Tire only sells them in the spray bomb style.. and I don't know how much a specialty body shop would charge me.. which leads right back to a reputable shop again...

I can buy painting supplies from Jocko'* auto supply (Carquest) or Arnold'* (PartsMaster) here in Ames. When you buy your stuff, make sure to get some extra reducer to clean the gun when you are done. I would bet you could buy the stuff on line too.
