Armor All--safe or not?
I've used armor on my interior everytime i've washed the car since i've owned it, loving the look and hoping that i'm protecting my dash, but someone wrote around here that armor all actually dries out the dash. Is this true? Any thoughts?

ive used it before without any problems. Most other people will probably recommend it too. Where did you get your info? If its true then we need to make some changes.

i personally use meguires all of the time and its much better, but i think unless u use the really really good stuff as in more expensive profesional stuff, ull slowly dry out ur dash

I've used it for years on just about anything. Tirdes, seats, vinyl, leather, hoses, plastic trim... if you get drunk enough, it even makes a nice mixer and it'* always been a good product. People are always finding something wrong with what ever. I'll continue to use it until something better comes along.

I use special products designed for one application. I use meguiars stuff personally, but i've heard bad things about armorall and it doesn't seem togive the top finish like other products.

I've heard bad things too, but I've been using it since my first car in 1985. Never had a problem. I use it only on the vinyl parts in the car. I don't like how it attracts dust, but simply wiping it down 2 days after application solves this. It can also cause a light film on the inside of the windshield as it outgasses in the summer heat, but once again, I clean my windshield fairly regularly, so it doesn't matter.

I've also heard about it drying out the plastic, don't know if it'* true or not. :? I've been using it and I don't think that there'* any problems with it, probably some idiot not cleaning the dust off his dash before using the protection stuff.

In most climates, it will not dry out the dash. However, it will leave behind a film that collects dust and creates more work to clean next time. If you do apply it, rub it out real well. Dont allow it so set too long with the "wet" look. And dont forget to actually clean the vinyl surfaces once in a while. Armour All is not a cleaner (though they do have one), but a surface "protectant" and will build up over time.
