New car smell!!!!

Actually kinda. I bought some mats today for winter, The "Car and Driver" Special. They're about as high quality as the material in the magazine. But they'll match, and look decent. My mats are fair enuogh to save, and after a run thru some MSU Mankato washing machines i bet they'll be nice and new. Then i'll get a carpet cleaner and do the interior, and VOILA.

They do have a new car smell though, kinda nice late at night... Anyone else got a way to get new car smell back?

Comes in a bottle, check the local auto supply store. Some jipo car lots put a bar of dove soap under the seat. Unless the car leaks, then it's kinda funny

ya...i carpet clean 1x a week 8)
leather care also smells pretty good.

there is a bottle of "new car scent" spray that meijer carries that is very good. most do not even come close. i have leather seats though and my car smells like leather. keeping it very clean will make the car not gather oders. also if you smoke do not use the ash trays.

pina colata interior spray is magical!!!

Jstpsntym 01-08-2004 08:35 PM

I've always found that spilling a quart of malt liquor on the floor in the back gets the car smelling REAL good. This little trick works better in the summer when the sun can bake it real good.

Seriously though, I use leather scent. Beware of car washes that offer "scents" as an option. They always seem to end up somewhere between "french whore" and "lysol" after the yahoo making $4 per hour get done dousing your floor matts.

look at auto parts stores for air fresheners. I was in the other day and went for the "hidden" vent ones, vanilla flavored.

Keep a dead sqirrel, lightly saran wrapeed to prvent stains, under the passenger seat. Covers up the smell of smoke and whatnot, plus, it keeps passengers from hanging around too long...

LOL..... nice....

I use vanilla scent in my 97, and my 91 just regular air freshers hidden around the car.

I know someone that tried something similar to that, baby puke. Problem was no one wanted to wash it either. :puke:

I like a strawberry scent, the vanilla gets too overpowering. :deadish:

macho_mike21 01-11-2004 01:13 AM

yeah, i dont leave the vanilla in for too long. When it weakens some, you get a really nice scent. Vanilla is a natural aphrodesiac or whatever too (makes people horny). :D Why else would it be so popular?

willwren 01-11-2004 01:46 AM

I have kids and a dog. None of that would work for me.

well you could always... buy a new car?

macho_mike21 01-11-2004 03:09 PM

Think the kids and the dog would put any air fresheners to shame? Not allowing food in the car helps.

bonnie94ssei 01-11-2004 07:41 PM

I love new car smell. I've never bought those "New car smell" in a bottle. Not sure if it would be worth it. I clean my leather a lot and use the Armor all wipes and my car naturally smells good that way. My mom loves my car smell she always says.

Theres this stuff at walgreens or target (not at walmart) called Ozium that you spray and it smells funky for awhile but then it goes away and your car smells like nothing, just normal. its kinda pricy though, small aerosol can for 5.15

SSEimatt93 01-23-2004 12:35 AM

i have 8 old air freshners hanging from my rear view mirror..hehe i just buy a new one and leave the old one up..the park ave had 15.
Ive never tried the spray stuff..maybe i will look around for some and give it a shot!

zzzzzeke 01-23-2004 08:11 AM

i'd be careful with the sprays not to get it on the leather (if equipped)

i'm still a firm beliver in carpet cleaning, leather cleaning, and armorall-ing to get my fresh scent.

Miami 01-27-2004 02:56 PM

This whole conversation is hilarious...

I spilled a latte on the front drivers' side floor of the bomber and now under certain conditions it smells like dirty feet. I've found that the hanging air fresheners work way better than anything else I've tried, for some reason...that and keeping the car cleaned and vacuumed...but no matter what I can't seem to totally get rid of the feet smell...maybe the malt liquor idea

Also, the sprays don't just seem to damage leather...they've left weird marks in my car, too, and I don't have any leather :( ...

Is vanilla really supposed to be an aphrodesiac?

mremer 01-27-2004 04:27 PM

we don't have Meijer, or A&P, or Piggly Wiggly or any other freaky north-of-the-mason-line stores, but Publix has this carpet deodorizer that you spray directly on the carpet, it foams up, and goes away and the car really does smell closer to "new car" than anything else I've tried. Although I do have a 2002:

1 it used to belong to Avis
2. I have 2 dogs
3. one kid
4. Friends that smoke
5. I eat in the car

I need to pick up some more, I'll let you know what it is exactly...unless of course you dont care...

Damemorder 01-27-2004 06:19 PM

Chocolate Milk. My buddy spilled an entire gallon in the backseat of his 85 LeSabre, and never cleaned it up. The first few weeks were wrenched but after we got used to it, It was great to put someone new in the car with the heater on and the windows up.... ahh... those were the days....
