Default Morimoto Mini H1 HID Projector Retrofit 2000+

Hello all,

Been a while since I've actively posted but I have a question regarding HID retrofitting. I'm now on my second Bonnie, I've sold my 2000 SE to my mother and purchased a 2005 White Diamond GXP over the summer. I can't say enough about the car, it has brought my love of the Bonneville to a whole other level, but anyway back on topic.

Recently I've gotten the HID bug. I ordered and installed a plug and play 5000k, 35w retrofit kit for my low beams. I love the amount of light the new bulbs put out on the road, not to mention how good they look, but as with most things I get an interest in the 'bug' has bitten me and I have to make improvements. I was reading over on HID Planet about the Morimoto Mini H1 Projector set and how with little modification you can add them into your existing headlamp assemblies. My question is has anyone with a 2000+ Bonnie done it and if so how easy was it?

With the rarity of the GXP headlamp assembly I do not want to drill and grind the back of the low beam mount in order to mount projectors. Opinions and suggestions please.

Thanks,

Matt

i put a set of GXP headlights in my SSEI and also put 5k HID'* in. as for getting more light out i would suggest swapping your fogs to HID'* as well. i have a 4500 kit in my fogs and the light output is huge plus the 9011 highbeam bulbs are insane

I've actually got a set of HID'* coming for the fogs. I ordered them at 3000k for a nice contrast and hopefully to help a bit with snow and fog visibility. I really want to have my low beams HID'* burning through projectors, for A) the focus of light with cut-offs and B) to not blind oncoming drivers as much.

Good luck doing a retrofit without cutting and drilling. I recommend getting a spare set of headlights to do the retrofit then swap over the lens and the high beam bulb bubble (the little thing that is black in the center of the refractor on the gxp lights) after you successfully get it done

btw by spare set i mean non-gxp lights (usually costs about 200-250 for an aftermarket set on ebay)

I'm going to do a little more research on this, getting a spare set of lenses I agree would be a prudent thing. I'm hoping it takes very little modification to make it work. A plug and play solution would be great. Damn the limited aftermarket for our cars.

we're on the same boat.
ive been wanting to retrofit projectors into my GXP for the past year, but i dunno if i wanna wreck my GXP headlights, took me over a month to consider if i wanna clear them or not, now that i did it, i dunno if i wanna open them again

another option i was thinking is to buy regular bonneville headlights, and do a DUAL projector retrofit, this way you get rid of the reflectors and the headlights would have overall a darker look into them like the GXP headlights

and this is something new in the market, they look nice and seem to have a very sharp cutoff line

Those projectors are interesting, they offer the small size like the Morimoto'* so they can be modded into our lenses without a Dremel and JB Weld. I've got to wait a month or so before I can pull the trigger on either set of projectors, but when I do I hope to score another set of lenses to mod up.
