mixed emotions *Duplicolor Hot Tires* *pics*

I decided yesterday to pick me up some of that DupliColor Hot Tire paint. I have been wanting some white letter tires for a while, so I figured this would be perfect. Here's my review. 2 coats of the paint covers the letters wonderfully. The pen is fairly easy to use, but this pen is junk. The tip is so corroded after the first coat, you can barely do your second coat w/o getting the paint on the rest of the tire. At one point, the tip fell out and got paint all over the tire and my driveway. Conclusion: it's not worth it, really. Just hold out until it's time for new tires, and buy a set of white letters. The pen is to expensive for its quality, and the time really isn't worth it unless your bored. And for those curious, here's some pics:

Too bad about the crappy pen! I can't make up my mind about the look. Maybe it depends on the car...

I had someone PS me a set of white letters on one of my pics a while back to see what it would look like.

just use an ordinary paint marker. i used it on a truck i owned before and it works great. stays on for a long time too. i had to put a couple coats on though to get the lettering perfectly white.

Are those Dayton tires? Daytona Radial SRs? Because they actually make them with raised white letters, but only in certain sizes, and last time I looked, not the size for our Bonnevilles. They're part of Bridgestone/Firestone now.
I had the Daytona Radial SRs on my wife's previous car, an 88 Grand Prix SE and it looked fantastic. The white lettering was solid, not outline. It really looked great. |
