Default Underhood detailing/ what are the tricks?

Are there special products for underhood detailing my 97 SSEi? So far I have degreased the top and bottom of the engine but there is still a residual layer of darkness on things like the dipsticks handles and engine cracks and crevices. How do you get that "like new" look you see on the used cars on the dealers lot without hurting the paint or plastic parts. My engine is pretty clean but could be better. What is the "clay bar" equivalent for the engine compartment?

Thanks,
-Jason

I tend to use any degreaser with citrus in it, then low pressure water. Once thats done, I just started using CD2 Engine detailer, then wipe off everything lightly, that stuff is AMAZING trust me!!!

i throw a towel over the alternator, coils, and my exposed K&N filter before spraying into the engine.
