Oh no, rust!
I've noticed this on a few Bonnevilles and was wondering if any one else had the problem of a rusty gas door. It wasnt bad until a year ago.

Mine was terrible! I bought a new one from gmpartsdiect.com, primered, painted, and clearcoated it. Here is a pic from summer, 2005:
It was MUCH worse when I finally swapped it out a couple weeks ago. The rust was streaking down the fender from the rain.

I enjoy zero rust. Oregon doesn't use salt for ice. We use either a liquid chemical de-icer or gravel (similar to the red stuff on a baseball infield).
Unfortunately, the fine gravel causes roadrash, but I've recently repainted my rockers on the Zilla to fix that.

I gotta find the can, but I put a chipcoat on my rockers over the paint the last time I painted them and it'* holding up REALLY well. It'* intersting, because if you look at Bone-Evil and Silverbullet, one has it already, and the other doesn't. Even though they're both Canadian 2000 SSEi'*.

Interesting.. the rusty gas tank door seems more common than other parts of the car in certain areas.
While they use a calcium for snow removal in my area.. I don't see how salt would be in such a concentration on the door versus the fenderwell. Either way.. There are some choices out there for replacement and the door is only held in by a couple of 10mm nuts after you move a couple of 7mm bolts.
