Default how do you remove leaves from area around wipers?

My car seems to accumulate lots of leaves in the area where the windshield wipers are. How do all of you remove these pesty leaves from that area. There seems to be alot of grooves in and around the wipers that collect these leaves. Any easy way of removing them? When I wash the car, even the water hose does not do a very good job of removing them?

Thanks for your help.....

ps and it'* good to be back.....44 days at Knott'* with only Christmas day off was tough this year!
