has anyone cleared their headlights here?
hey all. ive tried all the magic fix crap over the 4 years ive had my car. and now that ive got the new one with virgin non treated headlights, i was thinking of trying something new. around the interwebs ive seen some guys clear coat over theyre headlights. seems to work better than the polish crap and if i bought a uv resistant clear, in theory should keep them looking new for a long long time.
i was thinking about using some 800 grit, followed by some 1000, 1500, 2000, and some 3,000 then hitting them with some high cut polish followed by some clear then back to the high cut. (then possibly another coat of clear if needed) anyone try this before? figured the new PA will be a perfect candidate for this. https://www.gmforum.com/attachment.p...ine=1394424425 |
Is it clouded on the outside or inside? The lights in my Century were cloudy and gross on the inside. Just something to check before you start sanding.

There is a method on the interweb that uses sanding and clear urethane with excellent results

I've done it with my 95 Bonneville tail lights. It does make them much shinier and the light emitted seems brighter.

@ travis, its on the outside for sure. you can feel the roughness. like a REALLY dirty car feel.
its super common on this body park ave. i have yet to see one under 50k with clean stock lights. driving a billboard down the road isnt very aerodynamic. haha. randall, do you have any links? and mike, thanks for the info, i hope mine turn out as good as yours did. |
I will have to try and find a link. They have been doing it on Pontiac Bonneville Club for a while, and the only issues so far are workmanship related.

I wet sanded and cleared my tail lights. Someone put tint on them. Basically use the grits you said and have at it. After the clear dried I buffed them out.
