Goodyear TripleTreads turning a rusty color?

3 Attachment(s)
These are about 7 months old and babied. They continually turn a rusty color that won't wash off. Any ideas?? Im thinking of going back to the dealer where I bought them. I did a google search and it doesnt' appear to be a widespread problem with the tire. Cant find anything. I know it could be brake dust but it has the factory pads on it. And my expedition has the 4 wheel discs and it doesnt do that.

before washing, just wet

Do you use a tire dressing often? If so, what brand? Any more often than your truck. The reason I say this is I notice both my cars do that with some dressing brands when combined with rain. Since I experimented with various brands I finally found one I am satisfied with. I did not notice what state you are in. Might you have red clay like in the Carolinas?

It just seems odd that even the tread appears to have that rusty hue to it...? There is some red clay in the area where I live.

Some tire dressings WILL turn the tires brown, not sure of the reason why but some does.

heck, even armour all will do that to tires, no idea what causes it, but i recommend you take some of that bleach white stuff for tires. makes em look new.

badleg,

Armor All Extreme Tire Shine. I don't know if you will ever find a product that does not discolor at all, but this is the best I've found so far. Tthe longer it is on before a rain the less dirt residue. I'm sure dirt residue is the reason for the red crap. Experiment.

Your tires aren't rusting. They are dirty.

You'll need to clean the rubber with something a little better than car wash to get that dirt out.

I have a long handled gong brush and use comet (original powder) cleanser on my tires. Make sure you use it on the rubber only and not the rims. It is amazing how much dirt comes out of the rubber when you scrub them.

The TripleTreads are supposed to have a special compound that is supposed to keep them black. It sounds like the tire dressing is having some sort of reaction with the rubber. Honestly, try giving Goodyear a call. The TripleTread is one heck of a great tire (I have them on my Aurora and love them) and I haven't put any tire dressing on my tires. 1 year and 7k later I'm doing just fine as far as color goes.

try using simple green on your tires next time you clean them.

Just use some Eagle One Wheel and tire cleaner. You will see the brown crud run off. I let it sit for a few seconds and then I scrub away with my soapy water and tire brush followed with a rinse. It works every time and I will almost guarantee it.
