And from others experience i hear that when used for high beams, the ballists burn out quick due to switching the high beams on and off. ballists dont like to be turned on and off

Ok cool just wondering because I am going all HID with halos for the fogs. If I did do HID'* for the highs I would over ride the low cut off.

Its a very bad idea for the following reasons.

It will take 15-20 seconds for HID'* to reach their full brightness. I've often used my high beams to signal other drivers during the daytime. Using HID'* makes it impossible for you to do this.

If you drive anywhere with high beams on, you'll find yourself turning them off and on any time a car comes toward you. As mentioned earlier, HID ballasts don't like to be turned on and off repeatedly.

Sometimes I'll high beam an idiot driver who'* being an *******. Having to wait 20 seconds for that effect makes it that much less satisfying.

Want brighter high beams? HIRs, not HIDs.

Oh, I also like to quickly flash a high beam to an oncoming driver who is driving with their high beams on to remind them that they're blinding the **** out of me. 50% of the time, they realize it and I can regain my vision. The other 50% of the time, they're just some completely oblivious or ******* driver.

So, I just read the article on HIR lights, two questions. One, why would you want to deal with HIDs whenyou could have these? Two, how/where do you buy them?

OK so when I do the write up I need to include:

- 3x relay harness installation (high, low, fog)
- DRL bypass and full power enable
- Keyless flash disable
- Low beam deactivate relay bypass
- SSE\i lamp monitor fix

I may have to borrow from other guides, heh. But I'll do it...

and I did high beams because I wanted to. I did the relay bypass. I don't run them often. Only when I'm out in the country past midnight, really.

HIRs are bright, yeah, but I don't like the color. I want a true 6000k.

And they don't burn out ballasts quickly because of the flash. Canandians need DRL'* and can't eliminate them. Then there'* the SSE/SSEi lamp monitor. Once you have one, you want to ensure you teach it the new lights so it doesn't drive you nuts.
OK I've got everything written up. Just waiting on me actually doing it and taking additional photos.

Hey Kmalinich,

Would these same steps (listed below) be the same for my 2005 SLE? I have done low and fog HID'*, and am wanting to disable everything mentioned....Just wondering if you know or not...Or anyone else that may know..

- 3x relay harness installation (high, low, fog)
- DRL bypass and full power enable
- Keyless flash disable
- Low beam deactivate relay bypass
- SSE\i lamp monitor fix

Thanks,
Eric

You would only need the first 2 steps. Our keyless flash only flashes the markers on the front if you disable the DRLs

They're not **as** bright as 35W HID'*, and 55W HID'* will be even brighter.
A 55W 6000K HID bulb will produce ~3350 lumens
A 35W 6000k HID bulb will produce ~2800 lumens.
A 55W 9006 Halogen will produce ~1100 lumens.
A 9012 HIR will produce ~1875 lumens.

Also, HIR'* will create around the same ambient heat as a standard 55W halogen, which is still more heat than an HID bulb. However, they are the most recommended alternative to HID'* and the only "brighter" high beam you should ever consider using. I would also use them as low beam replacements if you're at all worried about the cops in your area, or worried with being legal in general.

In regard to fitment:
A standard 9006 Bulb will be equivalent to a 9012 bulb.
A standrad 9005 Bulb will be equivalent to a 9011 bulb.

Toshiba made the HIR 9012 up until 2009, then discontinued it. Phillips then began producing it, labeled as HIR2. I believe they now have a 3rd generation.

You can buy them here:

I am VERY tempted to pick up a pair for the Bonneville GXP'* high beams.

Why does the color matter when nobody will ever see it? You're not supposed to see 6000K HID'* shining in your face as an oncoming driver. There'* a reason why cars that are outfitted with HID low beams are then fitted with HIR high beams from the factory, and I have outlined those reasons in a previous post.
