front arrowhead clearing?

Has anybody ever cleared their front arrowhead here?....I'm losing the red in mine(its clearing itself, heh) so I am thinking about just going ahead and clearing it..should be fairly easy i think besides putting it back on..it appears to be melted into the grille by 2 tabs..dunno how easily it'll go back on after taking it off since i'll probably have to cut it off...any suggestions for re-installing it afterwards?

dillcc 03-26-2006 07:10 PM

I actually just did it today - somewhat on accident. As far as removing goes, I don't know what would be best. I tried an overlay decal to impove the appearance of my faded arrow and didn't like it, and when I removed it, it took the arrow with. Maybe if you use some really strong tape you can get the same effect. I used a razor blade to actually clear it. It was tedious but it worked. For reinstallation I used some 3M double sided emblem tape which should work fine I would think. Here's the link to mine:

EDIT:
Here's a pic of my missing arrow. To get yours off try pushing something through that hole in the center. If I remember, that hole goes all the way through to the back side of the grille. The junk that's still on there is a soft adhesive material with some paint stuck to it.

Mine just fell off a while back. The glue I used to put it back ate the red over most of it, so I guess I cleared mine. Albeit unintentionally....

I had some liquid emblem adhesive but I was afraid of the reaction with the new paint, hence the tape instead. I hope it stays!

Mine also fell off a couple years ago and I glued it back on. It did lose some of the color also.

I think that evenly and gently prying or maybe using the poke-through method mentioned above would do it to remove the emblem. Clearing should be just as dillcc suggests.

Are they glued or do they have two plastic weld spots on the back?

They are glued, but it seems to give out from age after a while. Mine came off while drying it after washing one time.

I think those "weld spots" are what hold on the chrome trim to the arrow and the arrow is glued like previously mentioned.

At the time I re-glued mine, I called the dealership for a replacement emblem and was informed that I had to buy the whole replacement grill piece for some outrageous sum (I don't recall the amount, just that it was a LOT). That's why I just reglued mine back on, faded and all.

you may want to try gmpartsdirect.com

they may have them by themselves..i think the entire grille is about 125$(shipped) from them...dont quote me on that though.

thanks

If you can clear the old stuff out yourself and find the right paint and feel comfortable with it, it really would be the cheapest thing to do. Getting the silver in the "+" symbol might be the hardest, but if you're out of luck trying to get just the arrow on GMPD.com that may have to do. Anyone who has been to a junkyard ever been able to get just the arrow without the grille?

Well if you were able to do it at your house I'm sure someone here can do it at a yard.

Bugsi 04-11-2006 06:00 AM

They don't sell the arrowhead separately. Neither does GMPartsDirect. Some kids ripped the arrowhead off my car and stole it. I had to get the whole front grille, and yes, it was around $120 from GMPartsDirect. But I'm anal about my car, so I paid it, just to get the red arrowhead.

To get it cheaper, post in the Wanted forum for the salvage yard vultures to look for one for you. I can't believe nobody sells the arrowhead separately. Seems like there's a market there and nobody filling it.

If you read further up in this thread, you'll see that he had to pry his off and was removing the red anyway. When you pry them off, or they fall off, the adhesive that's used to keep them on the badge holder takes the color with it.

Now you could get the whole badge/holder off the grille by drilling out the plastic spot welds, I suppose, but there would be a challenge involved with re-attaching it to your grill.

One of these days, one of us will come up with a good way to do this, I believe. ;)

Good call lash, didn't even think about that. Junkyard won't work except for a whole grille assembly and I'm guessing it'd be hard to find one without any fading already. GMPD.com would be the only way to go as I see it, but I'm not getting a match when I search that part number "25625878" posted. Am I missing something? What was the price listed by the way?

The P/N Pat listed was one he got directly off the badge itself and likely is not available in that form, as mentioned. GMPD does carry the whole grille, if you want to spend the $120+ for a new, unfaded badge.

So there's no confusion, all GM components have P/Ns, even if they are not available individually from GM. The part's supplier has to have it for prints, reference, sales, etc. Typically though, these small items that are not directly maintenance related are available only as a part of some larger assembly from GM Service Parts Organization (GMSPO).

Sorry, looks like we're SOL for now at least. :(

Bugsi 04-11-2006 05:51 PM

Like I said before, it isn't available as a separate part. Been there, done that, bought the grille.
