Arrow New idea on tail light delam?

Okay, I have been contemplating VHT for the entire tail section, but am a little concerned about the results as clearly (no pun intended) any flaws in the tinting would come to light (okay, pun intended).

I searched the threads and could not find anybody who had even suggested this.

Anyone ever thought of or tried to REMOVE the black? I have never had them apart yet, but isn't the "laminate" plastic? Couldn't it be removed and the lenses wet-sanded?

Just a thought. Feedback (pos. or neg.) is welcome!

Oh, and my delam is pretty bad, so drastic is no problem. lol

I have a GXP so I really dunno what'* going on inside the tails of the none GXP ones, but one thing I remember is when I cleared the tail lights on my 03 GP GTP the black lines inside the tail light was part of the clear lence, so it wasn't removable

I've seen many Bonneville owners clearing their tails and no one removed the black lines, I doubt its possible
Just my $.02

I always thought those black areas were non-removable as well. But if they are delaminating (pulling away from the lens) would it not be logical that they could be removed entirely?

I think to remove it you would have to remove the entire lens itself and do some sanding and painting or find a way to rejoin the lens and back

That'* what I was thinking. A complete disassembly of the lights, remove/sand off all traces of black (laminate), wet sand whats left, reassemble and reinstall. I am primarily trying to find someone who has done this before as it is killing me to know what it would look like.

Good luck on completely removing the lens. The tail lights are a PITA to removed the lens and most of the time you wind up with a broken housing

I know one person has done it before. They did grand prix tails and bonneville tails and removed the black stripes and then tinted them. It was posted on a clubgp but i cant find em again.

I figure if they were ONCE two pieces, then they can be again. It will just depend on the work/benefit ratio. Before I commit to it though, I would really like to see a result. I really don't wanna be the guinea pig on this one. lol
