Next is to start doing the body filler, when sand, sand, more sanding. then paint..

Then tomarow im going to do the calybar i got last week and see if i can make her look and better.
This upstate salt rust is like fighting a loosing battle :(

looks like you did a good job... hopefully it works for ya... id be scared sanding my baby like that... but if you have a rust hole its not gonna be that bad...

if i were you, id take off that rubber seal unless its rusted to bad also... so you can paint under there

never noticed the rust in any of your pics.. you hide the defects just like me :)

id do that to my van if i gave a shit ha

Well im done.... it came out ok..

Need to do some buffing and stuf to get it to blend in... but it alot better then having a rust hole and paint bubbles :)

oo and thats not over spray you see around it.. thats just Bondo dust and stuff.. haven;t cleaned it yet...

They say black is the toughest color to match because of fade etc. Looks darn good IMO.

A little glossier black is much better than an ugly rust spot.

I almost agree with Haro.. you probably have more rust under the rubber seal...unlike him..I know..rubber doesn't rust...lol

yeah it was rusty under there but the bolts looked soo bad that i didn;t want to have to replace anthing else at this time. dont have the money...:(

Once the paint fll harddens im going to polish and buff that area to see if i can get ti to match a little better. and maybe if it still looks too good i might take some sand in my hand and try to make it match the res of my car lol :D

Haro- yeah its a little nerv racking to start to grinde and sand into yor baby but it had to be done.. :) im hopping that it last throw the winter up here, cuz iv done this befor to other cars and the Salt is soo bad up here that it start to make te Bondo come out :(

well in 6 months we will see how she looks, one thng im supprised about it that there isn;t really any rust in the engine bay... that way only like two spots and i hit them wth that black rust stopper.

Awsome good thinking to get this done before the snow especialy with the upstate weather

singscountry1967 08-14-2006 02:04 PM

Good job there Ryan...if you want to practice some more...Ditchboy has a few spots...and I think he's got green paint from NEBF too.. 8)

yeah once she sets use some rubbing compound on it, and polish the hell out of it, i bet u can get it to match REALLY well with a bit of elbow grease

Black can be tough, for exactly the reason you state.....the finish(Sheen) is tough to match. True Color match is always easy, if it a true black. (Some manufacturers used what should have been labeled 'deep purple'

Whites, and any metallic are the pain in the arse!

did you get in behind the panel and use the rust stoppper? cause if you didn't I hate to tell you, but is gonna come back. I will admit for now it looks better than it did.
