Default Need instructions on how to use clay bar..and advantages

Considering purchasing a clay bar kit..I'll prolly go with Meguiars. Never done it before, so I need good instructions on how to do it. I have a spray bottle with just regular water in it..would that be enough to mist with as I polish? And can I put this stuff on over wax..is it better than wax? What are the exact advantages?

The California Gold Clay Bar uses advanced friction technology to shear-off and remove contaminants before they can cause further damage to your car'* finish. Showtime Instant Detailer is the lubricant that allows the Clay Bar to safely glide across your paint while it absorbs dulling and damaging particles. The Clay Bar then suspends the contaminants insde the clay so they cannot scratch or be deposited elsewhere.
so basically....use the detailer spray that comes with the clay bar. you will want to wax after you clay for best results.

i don't belive claying is something that needs to be done on a schedule. the first time you'll probably have pretty decent results. after that if you keep your car waxed (or in my case the meguiars 3 phase system [cleaner, polish, wax], the cleaner does the same things as the clay bar) you shouldn't need the bar on a regular.

does come in handy for tar and whatnot though.

I use Zymol liquid wax..it'* a light blue colour and smells great. Easy to use, and also looks great on our painted aluminum wheels..makes them shine like you wouldn't believe.

All you do is wipe it on with an applicator pad and, by the time you've put it on the whole car, go back to where you started and wipe it all off with a rag. Then, after you've done that, go back and spritz water on the car and wipe it down..it 'sets' the shine and makes it glossier.

If you're going to use a clay bar, I would suggest you use Dawn dish soap to wash the car first. Since Dawn has a high alkalyne content it will remove the wax build-up on the car.

Once washed you can then mix a small amount of Dawn with water and use that in your spray bottle to help lube the surface while using the clay bar, also keep a hose handy to rinse off each section as you complete it. Once the whole car has been clayed, wash it once more with Dawn. Next dry the car with either a chamois or water blade and then use the quick detailer on it. Next is to apply your favourite wax or polymer.

Be sure to fold or flip the clay bar as 'stuff' accumulates on it.

This should take you a few hours...enjoy!!!!

Cheers,

I just give it a good wash, and then clay. The clay will pull of the wax, without leaving anything behind like the soap will.

I'll do it 2 or 3 times a year most likely.
