it has a magnet to where then that way it can be moved how do you think that would look

BillBoost37 02-07-2006 11:30 AM

Like a slightly off center thumbtack..

It's about functionallity right?

Careful with them Magnet antennaes. If the magnet is too strong, you misght lose/scratch your paint trying to take it off, or if it shifts. If it's too weak, you'll lose/scratch your paint when it gets blown off at high speeds and bangs against the body until you can stop and grab it.

^ that is true, be careful when putting it down. maybe you can get a thin piece of fabric or material that is slightly bigger than the magnet, to go between the magnet and the car. I used to have one on my oldsmobile cutlas ciera. I think it looks pretty good, if you put it in the center, and run the cable directly in front of the magnet into where the trunk lifts up, and then run it through the trunk to the edge of where the back seat meets the trunk, there is a litle passageway that you can squeeze it through. If you need any advice or help installing it, shoot me a PM. hope I helped you.

vptruman 02-08-2006 09:33 AM

I've got a cobra cb too, nice system. I would like to get a wilson antenna, and I just found that there is a dealer in the town next to where i work. =D But I think it would look good on your car. Post some pitures as soon as you are done.

Antennas...

Nuttin but Wilson, man. They are hands down, the best (under 6 foot) antenna you can drop your cash on. K40's are decent, but for just a few bux more, grab a wilson. The Wilson 1000 is a great all around antenna. It can be had as a Roof Mount, Truck Mount, or Magnet Mount. The magnet... well, let's just say you can hit your speed limiter and the thing wont fall over. Really. Huge magnet.

I'd go for a trunk mount if possible. Though personally, I'm a hole driller. Ok, mind out of the gutter. Really, I drilled a hole in my Bronco about 2 months after I bought it. Never regretted it, there has always been a wilson 1000 on the roof.

I'm going to drill the roof of my 02 Jeep, also. Puttin' a Wilson 5000 on that. Little bigger coil, not really needed, but IEI didn't have any 1000's in stock when I bought it. My brother, bandit, has that wilson 1000, which was a roof mount, and I gave him my truck mount that I used on my Buick Regal. My dad has a trunk mount 1000 on his Caprice. (96, with the LT1 engine, nice.)

As far as CB's go. For off-the-shelf store radios. Go with Uniden. Better quality than cobra, and they're cheaper. Uniden used to make cobra radios, then they went their separate ways back in the 80's. Cobras quality went down, uniden brought out their own line of CB's with the same good quality. I have an uniden PC78LTW in the bronco. Got it offa ebay, already had a modulator kit with a hi/low power output switch. Great radio.

For compact CB's... The Uniden Pro510/520's are great. Though they don't have an analog meter, they make up for it in audio. Loud little radios once you peak them.

Uniden sells refurbs on their website, for a good price, and fair shipping charges. They look damn near new when u get 'em. I bought one 510 off of their site, works fine.

Just remember, no matter how good of a CB radio you buy, it's the antenna that really matters. Bigger is better. Really. Coils are no good for transmitting, but, not too many people that don't have 70's conversion vans don't want a 102" whip on their vehicle. So, coils are a necessary evil.

Wilson 500 magnet mount antennas would be my 2nd choice, and then a Liittle Wil would be third. (Don't waste yer money on a wilson 5000, really, it's not needed, unless yer getting one for a good price, or the 1000's are out of stock.)

BTW, for anyone in New Jersey, Interstate Electronics, on Route 36 in Hazlet has a good selection of CB Radio equipment. It's not a big part of their business, as the Home theatre and car audio has gotten bigger, but they still have an entire aisle, two sides, dedicated to it, as well as a display case.
