Soo me & kris, well mostly me lol, were wondering if there was anyway to get rid of all of this unnecessary chrome?



This is honestly the thing I hate most about the Bonneville. I would flip out if my car had this. Is it possible to paint over it? Like on the grill, could I just paint it a flat black to match the grill? & on the bumper strip, can I just tape off the strip, sand it down & paint that arctic white to match the rest of the car? Has anyone else tried this? Any help would be appreciated bcuz I am just clueless about this

The strip on the front grille is removable. You could take it off, sand it down, and paint it. For the side strips, not sure if you could do them because there'* a clear strip on top of the chrome.

aren't the side strips just door guards? they might only be held on with factory tape.

Wow, I'm really glad my car doesn't have any chrome except for the badges and wheels.

Nope should be held in by christmas trees

but yeah id say take them off, sand them down and paint them

You could do like Sam mentioned and take the trim strips entirely off, fill in the holes, sand and have it painted. That'd give it an entirely different look. Wouldn't have to worry about breaking the christmas trees either because you wouldn't be reusing them

Paint is best, but can be a real pita. On '99 and prior there is a lot of chrome to do depending on model. The chrome on my '95 just plain made it look old, So 4-5 yrs ago, I covered all of the trim chrome with pinstriping tape. The color is that dark "yellow-green" and I used black tape. The car gets a look of plain stealth to it.

I got what i needed at Poop Boys. A $10 roll of different widths of pinstriping. Curves around the rear windows take some patience, but any overlaps are only noticeable if somebody steps right up to the car and looks for them. So you don't have to make yourself crazy with end to end precision.

It'* been in full weather for 4+ yrs and it looks the same as the day I put it on. Trust me, it will not come off.

I have always liked the look of the mid-'90s SE Bonnevilles just a little more than the rest. The lines are clean, there'* no extra skirting etc. With the chrome blackened, it loses any dated look, and takes on a timeless, stealthy look.
