Default 3M Window Tint - Opinions

Planning on going to Auto Ameristar (Southeast Michigan company) to get my windows tinted. They advertise that they use 3M brand window tint, I've seen other people comment on other brands, but not 3M. Just curious as to what people think about the quality, and if anyone lives nearby if they've had experience with Ameristar. From the work i've seen them do they appear fairly top notch. Thanks.

I am not familiar with 3M tint. Have you picked up and read any literature?

10 years ago when I had my last car tinted, 3M was one of the better films. It has faded and turned purple, but almost all film will after that long. It looked great and really cut down on the heat when it was new(er).

That is why I suggested doing some research....

The better tints now are guaranteed to not turn purple. Llumar is one of those, which is why I chose that. Plus it was the one high performance tint I could get installed locally without special ordering.

Make sure you ask about the rear window, as I am going through problems with mine (not 3M, but just a general concern). Have them explain how they will do it and ask questions.

I just got an e-mail quote from then a day ago. They quoted $345 for all windows except the windsheild, but theyre offering a $50 off coupon online. $295 seems awful high to me so I e-mailed them about the major price difference between all other shops. From what I know 3M themselves offer a 10 year warranty against fadign or bubbling etc. But their site says theres a $25 copay to get it reapplied. I'm awaiting an email back from Ameristar to see what they have to pay. I've only heard good things about the quality of their work but I've been quoted $180$225 by many other shops.

I've got Llumar on mine also. Make sure that you pull the seat and the rear deck so they tint the entire rear window and don't cut around the 3rd brake light,it'll look better

I wish I had pulled mine :(

That seems pretty steep to me too, but there'* a lot of price play in that market. It depends on the local competition and sometimes on how familiar they are with the Bonneville, lol. Our cars are not an easy install when done right.

And then there'* the peace of mind from knowing that you are getting it done by a quality shop who backs up their work.

$180 to $225 seems right. My 2004 Bonneville cost $170.

LLumar is a quality tint. So is Johnson Tint. The modern tints do not turn purple.

I would spend some time poking around www.tintdude.com
