Default '98 Bonneville Paint is Peeling off

Hi, I have a 1998 Bonneville SE with 127,000 miles. I have owned since 2006, and it has been a great, well taken care of vehicle but there has been one persistent problem, the Paint peels off in large chunks. When I first bought the car, a little spot on the rear fender started to peel off, it was about the size of a quarter, so I quikly sanded it, primed, and painted it (Midnight Blue which is the color of the vehicle) and I thought i could put that problem in the book. But ever since then, the problem has only gotten worse, to the point now that i can't even take my car to through the car wash without paint somewhere coming off. The largest problem areas seem to be the hood, and all four fender/quarter panel areas. The chunks that come off now can be as large as several inches square, up to a foot. I know a lot of older gm vehicles from the late 80'*/early 90'* ad this issue, but I thought it was fixed by 98. Any ideas on what I can do?

Unless someone has a miracle cure the only thing I can see is to repaint the whole car. Most likely what you wanted to hear, but its the only thing I can think of, and then the car will be one solid layer of paint, instead of a patchwork of a fix here and there.

Yeah thats what I think I am going to have to eventually do, my problem is I don't know if it is really worth it, i mean the car can't be worth more then $3500, so I don't know how much a decent paint job would cost. I have spent a lot of time and effort repairing spots, and I get it to match very well, but as soon as wash the car, another spot peels off, and all that work was for nothing. I know Maaco or whatever does pretty cheap paint jobs, but do they look any good?

Sounds like bad primer from the factory. I thought this only happened to cars in the 95 time frame. Same thing happened to my 95. Got sick of fixing small spots so I stripped it and repainted it.
