96-99 headlights on a 95

I know this might take some work, but I was wondering if anyone had attempted to convert over the bezel for late model headlights so it'll fit on the 92-95's (Specifically in my case I'm aiming at the 95).

The lamps look alot better then the older ones.

Comments?

Isn't the headlight shape slightly different and therefore work would need to be done on the hood to make them fit right?

corvettecrazy 11-29-2005 10:21 AM

yes the shapes are different but depending how good you are at body work, it can be done.

and it has been done before:

Not sure. When I was considering this up at your place it was idle thought. I didn't compare the shape between the 97 and the 95.

Ya. Looks like an enormous PITA. Guess I'll explore some other options.

Do it...go custom!

I'd practice on some junkyard stuff first before I did it. Nearly perfect paint on the 95 means I'm loath to mess with the exterior too much.

Good to hear...(keep the damn gas cap off it!)

The grill is all you need to work on I think.

92-95 Headlights are better looking IMO
heheheh

you can do it.. the 96-99 grille will fit on the 92-95 hood....

XKalibuR 11-29-2005 06:41 PM

yea just swap the grill with it so you dont have that gap.

This will be a spring/summer project. I'd need to track down a perfect set of headlights, plus a grill from the yard. I do want to do it though, those later model lamps look a ton better.

The problem with putting 96-99 HL's on a 92-95 is you will need the grille and the fenders -the 92-95 grille might work, but look at how the headlights on the 96-99 mounts to the car -you will need the mounting bracket, which in turn gets in the way of 92-95 corner lenses being mounted (not to mention the newer HL won't match up with the cornering lense), and with the 96-99 HL, cornering lamps, and mounting in place there'll be a gap around the cornering light due to their size compared to the 92-95 fender contours for the 92-95 cornering lamps.

If you are good with putty and painting you could just fill in the gap, but it'd be alot easier to just get the newer fenders in matching color from a salvage yard.

My $.02

PS. Just do the 96-99 trunk/spoiler/tails upgrade like Jimmy Floyd and I have done -it works better on a SSE/SSEi though because the trunk and tails from 96-99's hang out over the bumper on 92-95 SE/SLE's.
