Whatever yellow LED'* I'd install would also become my high beam light source due to my high beams being my DRL'*, so that'* a no go. Disabling the DRL'* on my car is only easy to do if you buy the harness from bbengineer for $75 which would allow the DRL'* and auto headlights to be disabled independently, however, doing so would cause two more problems, the Odometer and radio lights would not dim with the dimmer and my keyless entry approach lights would no longer illuminate, so that'* a no go. Lastly, I don't have a problem with my DRL'* so why would I want to disable them?

The point of this thread is to find out if anyone had done this conversion, and if any problems had come up as a result of it, but thank you for your suggestions.

Actually, I'd love to do HID'* but don't want to just put HID bulbs in a halogen housing, I'd want to do a projector retrofit and the cost of that is a bit more than i'm willing to pay so no HID'* for me. I'm going to look in to these HIR bulbs though, never heard of them.

if you do HIDs you'll get much better output than any HIR or halogen bulbs even with the halogen housing

HIDs in halogen housing aren't as bad as people think they are, they are MUCH better output and dont do glare as much as internet reading
after installing HIDs just re alligen your headlights and you're safe to go.
been running HIDs for easy 5 years and never had anyone flash me or complaining saying they are too bright.

I'm not basing my opinion of HID'* in halogen housings on anything i've read online. Quite a few of my friends have done the HID conversion and not one of them looks good. When you're in the drivers seat, I can't deny it looks good, lights up the road oh so nicely, even the color looks good on some of them, but get out the car and stand in front of it and you get blinded! I don't know why you think that'* a good thing but last time I checked, there are other people on the road too so blinding them wouldn't be a good idea. One day me and some buddies had gone over to a friends house, he had just put in a huge system in his Tahoe and we wanted to get a demo. On his street he'* got tons of tree'* that kind of form a canopy over the street. He has some nice HID'* from FutureVision and put them in his halogen housings. We all got in our cars to head out to the demo spot and when he backed out of his driveway and headed down the street, his HID'* lit up the top of the canopy like you wouldn't believe. We're talking 20-30ft in the air! No thanks, I'll pass! And yes, he did realign his headlights after the install. He'* finally done a projector retrofit now so his setup is super sick, but it took him a while to do that.

I have another buddy with a 97 Accord, 2002 Navigator, 2000 Crown Vic, 99 4-Runner, 2005 Civic, and another with a 2001 Tahoe (not the guy mentioned above) all with HID'* in their halogen housings, same thing. I haven't seen a single HID install into halogen housing that doesn't glare like a **** and shine light everywhere in front of the car, including high up in the air.

Well, did some research on HIR bulbs and found that they are seemingly the best option aside from HID'*. At one point in time they were going for just $9.99 at your local John Deere store but apparently the word got out and the demand for them drove the price up and the stock on hand down because now the same bulbs are over $32ea and they are hard to find in stock at your local store anymore.

That being said, I think I'll stick to the Luminics Titanium White and I'll do the 9006-9005 conversion for my lows, and the Luminics JDM yellow for my highs/DRL'*. When it'* all said and done, I'll not only get both sets for $20 more than what one pair of HIR'* would cost me, but I'll also get a free LED keychain and an unconditional 1 year free replacement warranty as well. Hopefully I can have them in hand before Christmas, but won't get them installed until then so stay tuned. Say goodbye to the dingy looking light from the oem headlight bulbs in my sig pic!
