1996 Trunk swap to a 1992-1995 trunk ?

With tail lights?

Possible?

Buddy of mine wants to know.. thinks the 96-99 trunk looks like crap (with the wing, and tails that go across) and likes the older ones ..

possible? it's a 1996 SSEi

I don't think you do... Ask OlBlueEyes...

You can swap and no, you don't need the bumpers. you need the trunk lids, lights and to fab up a wiring harness since 92-95 uses 2 wires, one for each trunk light, and 96-99 uses one for the whole piece. Should be easy to do though. You might need hinges too if his are not pre-drilled for both sizes (most are)

that would look like a turd but thats just me...... Hey do you guys see any difference between the corners of the tail lights??? and the lines of the trunk lid would not flow togather with the rest of the car...

At least the 96-99 on the 92-95 I know looks good for sure. I've seen it in person.

this would be a first for BC...

There is most likely going to be a problem with the lamp monitor. It would complain at the very least

OLBlueEyesBonne 05-31-2006 04:34 PM

There would be no problem with the wiring. Use the existing 96+ wiring. The bulbs are the same, just slightly repositioned.
There will be no bulb monitor problems unless a bulb goes bad during the swap.

You'll just have to spend a little more time routing the wiring across the bottom of the inside of the trunk lid, but that should be no problem.
Go ahead and do it and post here to show us what it looks like.
